On January 10, 2013, a homebuilt Rans S4 Coyote went missing. A search was underway for the plane which is not equipped for night flight. Only the pilot, ERIC P HEINZ was aboard.
The missing plane was located when the pilot’s campsite was discovered, at 9:30 after it had crashed in Lake Pleasant Arizona.
The experimental plane sustained damage. The pilot survived.
A light aircraft crashed in a paddock around 3.5 km east of the aerodrome at the Ardmore Airport, Auckland, New Zealand, on June 29.
The incident happened just before 1:45 p.m., after the engine of the Airline Flying Club Cessna 152 failed. The aircraft was severely damaged after it skidded 200 meters across the paddock into a drain, and ended up on its roof.
The female pilot, who was just in her 20s, and her female student suffered minor injuries. Both of them were taken to Middlemore Hospital by ambulance.
Phil Welcome, the chief flying instructor at Airline Flying Club, appreciated the skill of the newly recruited pilot and said “It looks like she’s done an excellent job, and the only problem is at the end of her take-off run she’s encountered a drainage ditch.”
Welcome said a team of engineers would check the aircraft to find out the cause of the engine failure. He said “In these airplanes, engine failure is actually very, very rare.”
Senior Sergeant Ian Brenchley responded at the scene and started investigation on behalf of the Civil Aviation Authority.

Although the investigation into a plane crash takes at least a year, investigators believe they know the cause of the crash of the Indonesian Air Force’s 50 year old C-130 Hercules in Medan, in Sumatra, Indonesia. The plane initially lost altitude after it suffered power loss. One of the propellors wasn’t working. The plane was circling, and apparently impacted a hundred foot antenna before it fell on two buildings and a car.
According to an Air Marshall and chief of the Indonesian air force “The “initial finding” suggests the crash may have been caused by problems in the engine.” Before it went down, the pilot asked the control tower for permission to return to base.
There were no survivors. The number of dead fluctuates as the number of bodies recovered, because the plane was carrying an unknown number of passengers in addition to the crew of 12 and 110 official passengers. There also appear to be victims on the ground in the hotel and massage parlor that were struck.

The Red Wings Tupolev jet that crashed on December 29 had three survivors, two men and a woman.
Their conditions are improving.
The five fatalities included the captain, first officer, flight engineer, and two flight attendants. One of the now-deceased flight attendants had survived a while with traumatic brain injury, but succumbed.
Russian investigators have started analysing the flight recorders.
Nose sections of the aircraft have been removed to a hangar used by the VARZ-400 maintenance company
Reports are that the runway was inspected an hour and a half before the flight landed and overrun it. Speculation is that there may have been a braking (thrust reverser) issue.
On Dec 31st 2012 Rosaviatsia released a modification to the aircraft operations manual requiring flight crew to apply reverse thrust only if the engine is operating
To apply reverse thrust the engine should be pulled to idle for 1-2 seconds, then command reverse thrust at minimum thrust, verify yellow “thrust reverser unlocked” followed by green “REV” indications appear, only then apply high reverse thrust. Rosaviatsia reported there have been a number of cases where the green “REV” indication did not appear (editorial note: there have been rumours since the Dec 20th overrun, that the crew had applied reverse thrust, the reverser however had not opened and at least one of the engine was delivering full forward thrust instead).
