    Airports are enhancing the pest control measures in order to prevent the spread of Zika virus, the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) said in a statement on February 11.

    According to the statement, “The management of the outbreak is currently focused on reducing the populations of the Aedes mosquito that transmit the virus at airports (vector control).”

    The ICAO also urged the airlines to follow WHO guidelines regarding testing and use of insecticides for the airplanes.

    Jet Airways Flight Diverts to Karachi due to Medical Emergency

    Jet AirwaysJet Airways Flight 9W 202 made an emergency landing at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, Pakistan, on November 7th.

    The plane flying from New Delhi, India to Doha, Qatar, was diverted due to a medical emergency.

    Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) confirmed that the plane declared a medical emergency after a passenger’s medical condition became critical. However, the passenger passed away on landing in Karachi.

    KLM Flight Diverts to Hong Kong due to Engine Failure

    KLM flight KL-808 made an emergency landing in Hong Kong, China, on May 2nd.

    The Boeing 777-300 plane heading from Taipei, Taiwan, to Amsterdam, Netherlands, was diverted due to failure of right hand engine.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Air Canada Plane Diverts to Toronto after Hydraulic Failure

    Air CanadaAir Canada flight AC-822 had to divert to and make an emergency landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport, Toronto, Canada, on April 9th.

    The Airbus A319-100, en-route from Saint John’s, NL, Canada, to London, UK, was mid-air above Atlantic Ocean when the crew reported failure of the hydraulic system, prompting the plane to return to Saint John’s but instead diverted to Toronto due to bad weather.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All passengers onboard remained unharmed.

    Thomas Cook Airlines Flight Returns to Birmingham After Bird Strike

    Thomas Cook Airlines flight MT-1414 had to return for an emergency landing in Birmingham, England, on July 16th.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane took off for Larnaca, Cyprus, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
