Single-Engine Beechcraft Crashed in North Carolina; 3 Killed
A single-engine plane crashed and caught fire near Horneytown, in the south of Kernersville, Forsyth County, North Carolina, at 12:12 P.M on September 7.
The Beechcraft A36 was en-route to Piedmont Triad International Airport, North Carolina, from Sarasota, Florida, at the time.
The airport’s director Kevin Baker said the pilot was communicating a problem to ATC before the crash, but could not explain it.
The FAA and NTSB were investigating the crash.
According to an NTSB spokesperson, 3 people lost their lives in the accident.

United Airlines flight UA-698 made an emergency landing at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois, on January 1st.
The Boeing 757-300 plane flying from San Francisco, California, was on approach to Chicago when the crew reported a hydraulic issue and requested a low approach for gear inspection.
The crew performed a low approach and subsequently landed safely.
The plane stopped on the runway. No injuries were reported.

What: United Express/Atlantic Southeast Airlines en route from Burlington International Airport to Washington-Dulles in Virginia Where: Burlington International Airport, Vermont When: Jan 24, 2010 6:45 a.m. Who: 43 passengers Why: While en route, the pilot was having trouble steering; a light indicated that a passenger door was open. A “Phase 5 Emergency” was declared, and rescue vehicles were on standby.
The flight returned to Burlington International Airport not long after takeoff and made a safe landing.
There were no injuries reported.

What: Privately owned Piper PA-28-180 Cherokee B Where: Four miles south of Perryville, AR When: Nov 17 2011 Who: 4 aboard, 4 fatalities Why: Women’s basketball coach Kurt Budke and assistant women’s basketball coach Miranda Serna were on a routine recruiting trip to Arkansas, when the plane crashed in steep terrain in the eastern Ouachita Mountains in the Winona Wildlife Management Area. The other two aboard were Former State Senator Olin Branstetter and his wife, Paula. A local deer hunter’s wife told 911 when she saw the airplane nose-diving in a swirling pattern and crashing in the forest. By 6pm, the wreckage had been located. The passengers had been ejected from the plane, which drove a six foot deep furrow into a ridge but did not catch on fire. Rescuers reached the site on YO4 Forest Access Road via four wheelers.
Miranda Serna was in her seventh season as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State.
The cause of the crash is unknown but it was the catalyst of an outpour of support for Oklahoma State.
That the plane was co-owned by the Branstetters, who were from Ponca City. 82 year old Olin Branstetter was a longtime pilot.
Eleven years ago, a plane carrying 10 crashed, killing two OSU men’s basketball players, two members of its radio broadcast team, three members of the team’s support staff and two pilots in a snow storm in Byers, Colorado.

NTSB investigating Aviation Accident in Perryville, Arkansas

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has dispatched investigators to examine the circumstances of an aviation accident that occurred yesterday afternoon near Perryville, Arkansas, involving a Piper PA-28-180 (N7746W).
Jason Aguilera is the NTSB Investigator-in-Charge. He will receive headquarters support from air traffic control and meteorology. Parties to the investigation include the Federal Aviation Administration, Piper Aircraft and Lycoming.

What: Mircea Chira’s Flight Design CTSW Where: Baru Romania When: June 13 2011 Who: pilot Why: The ultralight took off from Deva airport, and crashed 60 kilometers away in rough topography between Pui and Baru Mare. The plane was loaned by the owner, Mircea Chira, to a businessman with more than 200 flight hours.
The wreckage was found in a a rocky and forested area in Hunedoara county.
The 47-year-old German pilot who lived in the Romanian town of Orastie apparently sent a farewell letter which some have interpreted as a suicide note.
