    Fly Jamaica Airways Flight Returns to Georgetown After Hydraulic Failure, Overshoots Runway

    Fly Jamaica Airways flight OJ-256 had to return and make an emergency landing in Georgetown, Guyana, on November 9th.

    The Boeing 757-200 plane took off for Toronto, Canada, but had to turn back due to a hydraulic failure.

    The plane suffered a runway excursion on landing. Passengers were evacuated via slides. Six people sustained minor injuries and were taken to a hospital.

    Macedonian Prime Minister’s Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Zurich

    A Learjet 60 plane, carrying Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, made an emergency landing in Zurich, Switzerland, on May 21.

    Prime Minister Gruevski was returning to Skopje from Strasbourg when his jet had to make an emergency landing due to technical issues. According to a government spokesperson, “The (technical) failure manifested as a strong noise, from an unknown origin, and it was followed by perturbation of the cabin pressure,”

    The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained unhurt.

    Finnair Flight Evacuated due to Smoke in Cockpit

    Finnair flight AY-1031 was evacuated at Tallinn Airport, Estonia, on January 30th.

    The plane coming from Helsinki, Finland, had just landed at Tallinn Airport when the crew declared an emergency due to smoke in the cockpit.

    All passengers were safely evacuated.

    What: US Airways Airbus A-319 en route from San Jose to Phoenix to Lambert Airport in St. Louis
    Where: Albuquerque International Sunport, Albuquerque, New Mexico
    When: Nov 13, 2009
    Who: 113 passengers and five crew
    Why: After leaving Phoenix, the airbus developed a problem with its windshield, and diverted to Albuquerque where it made a safe landing. Passengers debarked safely; and alternative transportation is being found for them.

    Hot Air Balloon Crashes in Texas; 16 Killed

    A hot air balloon crashed near the small town of Lockhart, Caldwell County, Texas, on the morning of July 30th.

    According to sources the hot air balloon hit the power transmission lines and its basket caught fire, leading to the crash.

    All 16 people on board were killed.

    The crash remains under investigation.
