    Why: While en route, a right engine experienced an engine surge. That engine had to be shut down. The crew had to dump fuel and return to Sydney where they made a safe landing about an hour after departure. Passengers were provided a replacement plane.

    Cessna Makes Emergency Landing on Mudflats near Anchorage

    A Cessna 180 float plane made an emergency landing on mudflats close to the Birchwood Airport near Anchorage, Alaska, on the afternoon of July 5.

    The pilot decided to land in emergency after the plane lost its power.

    The plane was en-route to Fire Lakes in Eagle River, Anchorage, from Katie Lake in Matanuska-Susitna Valley at the time.

    The pilot, who was the only person aboard, remained safe.

    Why: On takeoff, the flight crew reported they had a cracked windshield. They entered a holding pattern, dumped fuel and landed safely under emergency overweight conditions.

    GoAir Flight Returns to Ahmedabad After Bird Strike

    GoAir flight G8-720 had to return and make an emergency landing in Ahmedabad, India, on February 7th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Delhi, India, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and sixty-six people aboard remained unharmed.

    American Airlines Flight Returns to JFK Airport due to Electrical Problem

    American Airlines flight AA-64 had to return and make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on October 5th.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane took off for Zurich, Switzerland, but had to turn back after the crew noticed an electrical problem.

    The plane landed back uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Allegiant Jet Makes Emergency Landing in South Carolina

    AllegiantAllegiant airlines flight 683, en-route from Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Orlando, Florida, was forced to make an emergency landing at Greenville–Spartanburg International Airport, South Carolina on August 31.

    According to the airline officials, the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 aircraft, having 159 passengers on board, was diverted for emergency landing after it began to “experienced a cabin pressurization issue approximately two hours after take off.”

    The aircraft landed safely, although the passengers had to wear oxygen masks deployed overhead in the cabin.

    The airline provided hotel accommodation, refund for that leg of the trip, and a $200 voucher to all the passengers.

    The flight was rescheduled to depart from Greenville next morning.
