    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Flaps Problem

    American AirlinesAmerican Airlines flight AA-1427 made an emergency landing in Atlanta, Georgia, on May 11th.

    The Boeing 737-800, flying from Dallas Ft. Worth International Airport, Texas, was on final approach when the crew reported that the flaps are not moving from 25 to 30 degrees.

    The pilot initiated a go around and 15 minutes later landed safely. No injuries were reported.

    Lightning-Struck CF-18 Safely Landed in Whitecourt, Alberta

    CF-18A CF-18 was struck by lightning about 50 miles away from Whitecourt, Alberta, on July 24.

    The pilot, Capt. Adam Runge, was flying to Whitecourt for participating in the Hometown Heroes Airshow. He was about 50 miles short of his final destination when his aircraft was struck by lightning.

    However, Runge managed to safely land at Whitecourt airport. No damage to the aircraft or pilot has been reported.

    “A clearly defined bolt stretched from the clouds towards the aircraft…It was probably just a split second, we’re talking not even half a second I’m guessing, that it hit the aircraft around the cockpit area…It was just a short tingle,” said Runge.

    The manager of Whitecourt airport, William Stewart said “He [the pilot] said the electronics did a flash on him and he had a tingling sensation during the strike, but after that, everything seemed to function as it was supposed to.”

    Southwest Airlines Flight Returns to San Antonio due to Hydraulic Failure

    Southwest Airlines flight WN-1005 had to return and make an emergency landing in San Antonio, Texas, on September 24th.

    The Boeing 737-700 plane took off for Baltimore, Maryland, but had to turn back due to a hydraulic failure.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    What: Lufthansa Airbus A340-600 en route from San Francisco,CA to Munich Germany
    Where: Munich
    When: May 29th 2009
    Who: 277 passengers
    Why: When landing flaps failed, the Airbus prepared for an emergency landing. Fortunately, though the plane landed too fast, there was no serious consequence to the flap failure. Reportedly the plane was repaired and returned to service hours later.

    Air France Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Dusseldorf

    Air France flight AF-1107 made an emergency landing in Dusseldorf, Germany, on June 19th.

    The plane took off for Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, but had to turn back due to an issue with the landing gear.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Shanghai- Bound China Eastern Flight Diverts after Engine Failure

    China Eastern flight MU-5602 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Qingdao Liuting International Airport, Shandong, China, on January 31.

    The Airbus A321-200, flying from Shenyang, to Shanghai, China, had to divert due to engine failure. One of its engines had to be shut down mid-air.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    No injuries were reported.
