Southwest Airlines flight 3118 was forced to make an emergency landing at Baltimore–Washington International Airport, Maryland, at 8:49 p.m. on December 12.
Emergency protocols were deployed at the airport after the pilot reported a bird strike. The flight from San Antonio was approaching BWI at the time.
The plane landed safely and all 142 passengers and 5 crew members remained unharmed.
The aircraft was taken for examination.
Swiss Global Air Lines flight LX-1248 made an emergency landing in Stockholm, Sweden, on April 7th.
The plane flying from Zurich, Switzerland, was on final approach to Stockholm when the crew reported an issue with the brakes and went around.
The plane subsequently landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
A grieving father whose son died of trauma and “horrific burn injuries” when the plane he was in crashed in Arizona is suing the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines subsidiary, Canada-based CAE and its school in Arizona for causing his son’s death.
Bennell worked for CAE Oxford Aviation Academy Phoenix, which had a training-services agreement with KLS.
The complaint states that the training agreement between CAE and KLM “had financial incentive awards and penalties associated with the number of training flights provided to KLM flight students,” contributing “to a culture whereby safe flight practices were sacrificed for economic gain.”
The accident occurred on Sept. 13, 2012. The student pilot,Lucas Westenberg, 19, from the Netherlands, and Rob Van Den Heuvel, a 68-year-old retired KLM flight officer and former Dutch air force fighter pilot died in the same accident.
Taylor Bennell died in the crash. He was licensed by the FAA but not the JAA (in Europe); but without JAA certification, regulations forbade Bennell to teach. But Bennell had allegedly been ordered to provide Westenberg with flight instruction.
Pakistan International Airlines flight PK-451 had to return and make an emergency landing in Islamabad, Pakistan, on August 8th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Skardu, Pakistan, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a hydraulic failure.
The plane veered off runway upon landing.
Everyone aboard remained uninjured.
Air Asia X flight D7-207 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Brisbane Airport, Queensland, Australia, on July 3rd.
The Airbus A330-300 flying from Coolangatta, Australia, to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, had to divert due to bird strike resulting in engine problems.
The plane landed uneventfully.
All 345 passengers and 14 crew members aboard remained safe.
A small Cessna plane crashed in the woods in McDonough, Chenango County, New York, on the afternoon of August 8th.
The plane carrying 4 people was travelling from Sidney, Canada, to Greene County, New York, when it hit the top of the trees.
All 4 people were evacuated out of the plane with minor injuries.
The injured were taken to hospital.
What: Navy FA-18 fighter jet doing flight operations

When: Tuesday night 9 p.m
Why: When the jet ran low on fuel, the pilot was directed to land at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, which meant flying over Allied Gardens. The sight and sound of a jet flying low over the neighborhood brought back a panicked response, a reminder of an identical jet which killed people on the ground a few months ago in University City. Although the jet landed safely, the still-recovering neighborhood was catapulted back into a terror response–although the jet was completely in control the entire time.
Without wanting to sound too harsh, one hopes that San Diego recalls there is a military base and planes will be flying there when need be. There was no actual incident. Should they have ditched the jet in the bay rather than safely fly over? Then someone would have been complaining about the cost of a ditched FA-18. Be happy.
