    Where: near the north end of the Propwash Airport JUSTIN, TX
    When: 1/03/2009
    Who: Two fatalities. Pilot Forrest Johnson and passenger Larry Cotton
    Why: The aircraft was making the final turn on landing approach and crashed. The NTSB is investigating the circumstances of the crash

    Cessna Lands On Ice

    What: 1972 Cessna 150L registered to a flight school in Wheeling, en route from the Chicago Executive Airport
    Where: on the ice of Grays Lake near Route 120 and Lake Street, Lake County, IL
    When: early Tuesday evening 4:30 p.m. Feb 17 2009
    Who: pilot and one passenger were aboard. Neither was injured.
    Why: The plane was experiencing engine problems and the pilot determined he would not make it to land at nearby Campbell Airport. Rescue crews left the pilot waiting for a mechanic.

    The plane belongs to Flight Center at Service Aviation, Inc. of Wheeling.

    Rumor is it got up to 40 degrees Tuesday so let’s hope the pilot got that Cessna off the ice before it melted–

    Daredevil CEO Dies in Experimental Plane Crash

    What: Raleighwood Aviation LLC Lancair IVP-TP (built by Carlos Garza)
    Where: Boise Airport, Idaho
    When: Feb 03 2012, 8:58 a.m.
    Who: 1 fatality
    Why: Steve Appleton was flying an experimental Lancair IVP-TP. On his second flight, he took off, turned back to the airport. He contacted ATC and said ““321 Lima Charlie, I’d like to turn back in, and uhh, land. Coming back in.” and then crashed.

    Safety Board investigator Zoe Keliher said “Appleton took off at about 8:46 a.m, got the plane five to 10 feet off the ground and landed again. He returned to the hangar, then took off again at 8:54 a.m.; he got to between 100 and 200 feet when, according to witnesses, the plane suddenly stopped, banked and fell to the ground.”

    It crashed between two runways.In 2004, Appleton survived a crash that gave him a punctured lung, head injuries, ruptured disk and broken bone. This time, Appleton died at the scene. The plane was badly burned.

    He was the CEO of Micron.

    He had several planes which he flew frequently. (He has owned 20 planes.)

    The four seat experimental plane is sold as a kit. This one was built by built by Carlos Garza.

    JetBlue Plane Diverts and Makes Emergency Landing in New York

    JetBlueJetBlue flight B6-1012 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Buffalo Niagara International Airport, Buffalo, New York, on March 30.

    The Embraer ERJ-190, heading from Chicago, Illinois to Boston, Massachusetts, was mid-air above Buffalo when the crew detected smoke in the cockpit, prompting the plane to divert.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All 54 passengers and 4 crew members aboard remained unharmed. The passengers were rebooked onto other flights.

    Corporate Jet Makes Emergency Landing at Sioux Falls Regional Airport

    A corporate jet made an emergency landing at Sioux Falls Regional Airport, South Dakota, on April 30th.

    It is believed that the plane, travelling from Canada to Salt Lake City, Utah, was diverted after it lost cabin pressure.

    The plane landed uneventfully. There were five people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    Pilot Killed After Small Plane Crashed in Jefferson County, OR

    A small plane crashed near Madras Municipal Airport in Jefferson County, Oregon, on August 19th.

    The plane was approaching the airport when it crashed and caught fire.

    The pilot, who is believed to be the only one aboard, was killed in the crash.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.
