    Loganair Flight Returns to Sumburgh Airport After Bird Strike

    Loganair flight LM-438 had to return and make an emergency landing at Sumburgh Airport, Scotland, on October 19th.

    The plane took off for Glasgow, Scotland, but had to turn back due to a bird strike.

    Emirates Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Dubai

    Emirates flight EK-261 had to return and make an emergency landing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on December 16th.

    The Airbus A380-800 plane took off for Sao Paulo–Guarulhos International Airport, Brazil, but had to turn back after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Where: Benazir Bhutto Shaheed International Airport
    When: Saturday
    Who: not available
    Why: A bird strike right after take-off caused the pilots to request an emergency landing. No one was injured, and the flight took off after a delay of four hours.

    Airbus Hydraulics Failure in Canada

    What: Air Canada Airbus A320-200 en route from Toronto,ON to Winnipeg,MB
    Where: Winnipeg
    When: May 3rd 2009
    Who: 148 people on board
    Why: When the flight crew discovered low hydraulics fluid, they turned off the system, declared an emergency and flew on to Winnipeg without hydraulics. Just prior to landing, the hydraulics were re-initiated and the plane landed safely. According to the the Aviation Herald’s May 04 report, the “O-ring on the brakes servo valve needed to be replaced. ”

    It’s difficult to argue with a safe landing.

    Though it is impossible from our perspective to say whether this dangerous situation occurred due to maintenance failure or regular wear and tear, the Air Canada flight crew is to be commended for successfully landing without any injuries, and handling the situation in such a practical manner.

    UTair Aviation Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Vnukovo International Airport

    UTair Aviation flight UT-295 made an emergency landing at Vnukovo International Airport, Russia, on October 15th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Surgut, Russia, but had turn back after the crew noticed smoke in the cockpit.

    The plane landed back safely. There were one hundred and seventy-five people aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

    EasyJet Flight Returns to Manchester After Bird Strike

    EasyJet flight U2-1897 had to return for an emergency landing in Manchester, United Kingdom, on February 2nd.

    The Airbus A319-100 plane took off for Berlin Schonefeld Airport, Germany, but had to turn back after one of the engines ingested a bird.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.
