    Air Niugini Flight Returns to Papua New Guinea due to Smoke in Cockpit

    Air Niugini flight PX-275 had to return for an emergency landing in Kavieng, Papua New Guinea, on May 23rd.

    The plane took off for Rabaul, Papua New Guinea, but had to return shortly afterwards due to smoke in the cockpit.

    At least one tire deflated as the plane landed in Kavieng. No injuries were reported.

    Ryanair Denies Non-working Masks

    What: Ryanair en route from Bristol, England, to Gerona, Spain
    Where: central France
    When: Aug 26
    Who: 141 British and 27 Spanish passengers plus six crew members
    Why: cabin suddenly depressurized. The plane lost 26,200 feet (8,000 meters) of altitude”Urgent landing in Limoges” 26 people were hospitalized.; 16 people “complaining of ear ache” were taken to hospital. Although Ryanair brought in a second plane to carry passengers the rest of the way, fewer than twenty of them chose non-aviation transportation.

    Some passengers said the oxygen masks had not worked properly. Ryanair denies that there had been any problem with the oxygen supply except that passengers had expected a rush of gas instead of the steady stream the masks actually deliver.

    American Eagle Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Clinton National Airport

    American Eagle flight 3382 made an emergency landing at Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, Arkansas, on April 25th.

    The plane took off for Dallas, Texas, but had to turn back due to indication of a possible mechanical issue.

    The plane landed safely. All seventy passengers and four crew members remained unharmed.

    Panamanian Cessna Crash a Mystery

    What: Cessna 152 belonging to a flight training school en route from Marcos A. Gelabert Airport to the Calzada Larga Airport
    Where: floating near the village of Tranquillas in the Panama Canal’s Lake Madden
    When: found early Wednesday
    Who: Panamanian flight instructor Alex Bosquez and student Abraham Licona
    Bosquez had a commercial pilot’s license and was certified as a flight instructor. Licona had a private pilot’s license.
    Why: The crash is under investigation. The bodies have been recovered.

    Southwest Airlines Flight Diverts to Indianapolis due to Cabin Pressure Issues

    Southwest Airlines flight WN-5913 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Indianapolis, Indiana, on May 19th.

    The Boeing 737-700 plane heading from Las Vegas, Nevada, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was diverted due to issues with the cabin pressure.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Vintage Beech Goes Down in Quarry

    What: 1954 Beech Bonanza
    Where: Bloomington in a field/rock quarry along Rockport Road
    When: Thursday morning
    Who: Pilot Larry Gering
    Why: After Gering experienced engine trouble, he landed, one wing hit a tree, and part of the landing gear broke. A witness said “the plane coming down making a circle. . . see the smoke and hear his motor . . .”

    The FAA is investigating.
