    Delta Airlines Flight Diverts to Chattanooga due to Cargo Smoke Indication

    Delta Airlines flight DL-2826 made an emergency landing in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on July 17th.

    The plane heading from Atlanta, Georgia, to Nashville, Tennessee, was diverted due to a cargo smoke indication.

    The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

    Helicopter Crashes in Nepal

    What: Fishtail Air Aérospatiale AS 350B Ecureuil en route from Lukla Airport to Mount Ama Dablam
    Where: near Mount Ama Dablam base camp
    When: Nov 7 2010
    Who: 2 aboard; 2 fatalities Captain Sabin Basnet and Engineer Purna Awale
    Why: After flying from Kathmandu to Lukla at 8 a.m, the helicopter was the rescue team who had flown to Mount Ama Dablam to rescue two stranded Japanese mountaineers. After taking off at Lukla, the helicopter lost contact.

    A Fishtail Air helicopter search found the remains.

    Southwest Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Houston

    Southwest Airlines flight WN-289 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Houston, Texas, on February 18th.

    The Boeing 737-700 plane heading from Belize to Denver, Colorado, was diverted due to loss of cabin pressure.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Continental Engine Shut Down over Indianapolis

    What: Continental Express/Expressjet Embraer ERJ-145 en route from Indianapolis to Newark
    Where: Indianapolis
    When: June 1, 2011
    Who: 51
    Why: While en route, the flight developed an oil pressure problem. At 10,000 feet, the pilot requested a return to the airport due to the engine issue. He shut down the left engine and returned to Indianapolis to make a safe landing.

    Passengers were rerouted to alternative flights.

    Two Killed After Small Plane Crashes in Texas

    A small plane crashed in Fisher County, Texas, on June 15th.

    The Cessna 172 plane, carrying two people, struck power lines before it went down near near Abilene.

    Both occupants of the plane were killed in the crash. They were identified as Dallas Lee McMahon, 33, of Austin, and Jay “Bob” Robert Leibson, 38, of Burnet.

    Authorities said they were on an aerial photography mission at the time.

    SAA Flight Makes Emergency Landing at King Shaka International Airport

    A South African Airways flight made an emergency landing at King Shaka International Airport, South Africa, on November 14th.

    The plane heading from Cape Town International Airport to O. R. Tambo International Airport, South Africa, was diverted due to a heavy storm.

    The plane landed safely. There were one hundred and thirty passengers aboard, including Minister Siyabonga Cwele and Maite Nkoana-Mashabane. All of them remained safe.
