Update on South Sudan Crash that Killed 40 on the Banks of the White Nile.
On Wednesday November 4, an Antonov 12 cargo plane leased from Asia Airways (registered EY-406) impacting terrain in the South Sudan. The flight was en route from Juba Airport, South Sudan to Paloich Airport, South Sudan. Three people survived the crash. There were forty fatalities, many of which were on the ground. However, this was a cargo flight, not supposed to have passengers, and the number of passengers may have been more than reported according to officials. The recorded number of those aboard, five crew, and seven passengers, has not been verified.
The accident occurred just after the cargo flight had taken off from runway 13 at Juba Airport. It impacted near the White Nile river. The site has been secured, and the bodies are being recovered. Plans are underway to recover the black boxes.
The crew was made up of five Armenians and one Russian. Six passengers were South Sudanese. There may have been one additional foreign passenger, but that information is unclear.

Indonesian Hercules Crash Due to power loss according to Air Marshall
Although the investigation into a plane crash takes at least a year, investigators believe they know the cause of the crash of the Indonesian Air Force’s 50 year old C-130 Hercules in Medan, in Sumatra, Indonesia. The plane initially lost altitude after it suffered power loss. One of the propellors wasn’t working. The plane was circling, and apparently impacted a hundred foot antenna before it fell on two buildings and a car.According to an Air Marshall and chief of the Indonesian air force “The “initial finding” suggests the crash may have been caused by problems in the engine.” Before it went down, the pilot asked the control tower for permission to return to base.
There were no survivors. The number of dead fluctuates as the number of bodies recovered, because the plane was carrying an unknown number of passengers in addition to the crew of 12 and 110 official passengers. There also appear to be victims on the ground in the hotel and massage parlor that were struck.

Who: 14 aboard, 14 fatalities. 11 passengers, 3 crew (At one point there was an announcement of an additional passenger whose nationality was unknown. This is unconfirmed.)
Why: Due to poor weather conditions in Katmandu, the crew diverted to Simara Airport. ATC lost contact at 7.30 am. The plane’s generator had been causing problems and it failed, then the backup generator failed. Without a generator, the pilot is flying blind, without avionics. The flight crashed at 9000 feet in a hillside near Bastipur in Shikhapur.Other reports say the engine failed.
The casualties were Capt. Lucky Shah, co-pilot Sophia Singh, flight attendant Sahara Sherpa, and passengers R Rijal, P Humagain, P Bhote, K Rai and P Sherpa.
Six foreigners were aboard:four Americans: Irina Shekhets (30), Levzi Cordoso (49), Heather Finch (40), and Kendra Fallon (18), one Japanese: Yuki Hayashe (19) and a Brit: Jeremy Taylor (30) .
This is monsoon season, and the area is remote, and roads many roads are blocked due to landslides. Villagers report scattered plane parts and body parts, and rescue teams are en route.
