    Air Ambulance Makes Emergency Landing at India’s Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport

    An air ambulance had to make an emergency landing at Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport in Uttar Pradesh, India, on February 17.

    The incident happened when the plane was transporting a suspected swine flu patient, Antoinette Joy, from Sonbhadra district to Delhi. Authorities said the decision for emergency landing was made after the patient’s condition worsened.

    The plane landed safely and the patient was immediately transferred to a local private hospital.

    Authorities said the plane was chartered by the patient’s husband Malcolm Single. The couple hails from Australia and works for a multinational company in Sonbhadra district.

    Southwest Airlines Flight 871 Cockpit Fire

    What: Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 en route from Dallas to Little Rock to Baltimore
    Where: Little Rock Arkansas
    When: Sept 7 2011,
    Who: 103 aboard
    Why: While en route, an overhead light fixture in the Flight 871 cockpit caught on fire.

    The crew put out the fire and informed Little Rock Airport ATC to assemble emergency teams as they made an emergency landing in Little Rock.

    The plane made a safe landing with no injuries.

    An alternative flight was arranged for the next leg of flight to Baltimore.

    When: November 30, 2004
    Who: The captain, 1 flight attendant, and 23 passengers were fatally injured; the first officer, 2 flight attendants and 56 passengers were seriously injured; and 84 passengers had minor or no injury
    Why: On November 30, 2004, at 1814 Jakarta time, a McDonnell-Douglas MD-82 Lion Air flight 538, was substantially damaged when it overran runway 26 at Adi Sumaro Airport(SOC), Solo City, Central Java, Indonesia. The captain, 1 flight attendant, and 23 passengers were fatally injured; the first officer, 2 flight attendants and 56 passengers were seriously injured; and 84 passengers received either minor injuries or were not injured. Night visual meteorological conditions prevailed; however, rain showers were in the area, and the runway was wet. The flight originated at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. After landing, it continued off the departure end of the runway and impacted the concrete base of a localizer array.

    Arkia Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Ben Gurion Airport

    Arkia flight IZ-821 had to return and make an emergency landing at Ben Gurion Airport, Israel, on November 17th.

    The plane took off for Eilat, Israel, but had to turn back due to an issue with the brakes.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Engine Failure Prompts Air India Flight to Make Emergency Landing

    airindia2Air India flight AI-019, form Delhi to Ahmedabad, landed in emergency at Sanganer Airport, Jaipur, India, on August 22, after its left engine failed.

    According to an ATC official, “The pilot informed Jaipur air traffic controller (ATC) about some technical problem in the aircraft after which it was diverted.” One of the passengers said, “We got message from the captain that the left engine has failed and the plane will land at Jaipur.”

    The Airbus-321 safely touched the runway at 7:25 a.m. None of the 104 people aboard reported any injuries.

    The aircraft was grounded for examination and repair.
