Why: The charter flight took off once and returned to the Lakeland with cabin pressure problems, then took off again, again with cabin pressure problems.
The passengers were booked on alternative flights.
Qatar Airways flight QR-82 had to divert for an emergency landing in Munich, Germany, on February 21st.
The Airbus A330-300 plane heading from Berlin, Germany, to Doha, Qatar, was diverted after the crew failed to retract landing gear.
The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

The report from Lebanon on the January 2010 crash of ET409 has been rejected by Ethiopia Airlines. It is not surprising that they would reject it as the report blames Ethiopian airlines; specifically they cite the probable cause of the crash as being “the flight crew’s mismanagement” and “a failure in basic piloting skills,” and that the pilot flew 188 hours in 51 days with minimum rest.
The crew ate during their Beirut stop, and complained they could not sleep afterwards.
Ethiopian Airlines claims the government withheld information, and claim the plane exploded.
No sign of fire or explosion were detected in the wreckage
US Airways flight 723 had to return and make an emergency landing at Dublin Airport, Ireland, on February 26.
The plane took off for Philadelphia at 11:15 a.m. but had to return shortly afterwards due to an issue with its flaps.
The Boeing 757 landed back uneventfully.
There were 132 people aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.
A Bell 206-L4 helicopter crashed in the Gulf of Mexico at South Timbalier Block 317, some 90 miles from Houma, on the afternoon of June 11.
The accident happened when the helicopter was on its way to an oil rig platform, with two people on-board.
The crashed helicopter and 2 dead bodies were recovered after tireless efforts of U.S. Coast Guard first responders and many others on June 13. The names of the deceased have not so far been released.
The helicopter, owned by Westwind Helicopters, was contracted by an oil and gas company, Wood Group, at the time of accident. A spokesperson of the company, Bobbie, confirmed the incident and said “Our thoughts and prayers are with them, their families and friends during this difficult time.”
Westwind Helicopters and NTSB are working to determine the cause of crash.

When: Dec 2 2009
Who: Pilot Shawn Hayes, 2 flight crew nurses and a patient
Why: After Pilot Shawn Hayes reported “a drop” in one of his engine, he headed for the airport. ATC halted takeoffs for 5 minutes allowing Hayes to land anywhere but he didn’t make it to the airport. With one engine running, the pilot made a safe emergency landing.
Flight nurses transported patient by ambulance.
Hayes is a 23 year former military pilot.

Where: Hickory Regional Airport, NC
When: Saturday September 5 10:21 a.m
Who: 78 on board
Why: While en route, an indicator light was showing a fire on board; however after a safe landing at Hickory Regional Airport, no cause was found for the indication and the flight continued on its way after an inspection.

Any time a smoke or fire detector goes off, it reminds me of the dryer setting off ion-type fire alarm. Maybe I should ask one of my pilots if the fire alarms on planes are the ion type, or the photoelectric type (which is unlikely to react to cooking. Not that any of the passengers brought a hot plate. )
