    Cracking Windshield Leads Delta to Vegas

    What: Delta Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Los Angeles to New York
    Where: Las Vegas
    When: Jun 16th 2011
    Why: While en route, the right windshield of the Boeing developed a crack.

    The flight crew diverted to Las Vegas where they made a safe landing. The disposition of the passengers is not known, though we presume that the passengers were provided alternative flights to Kennedy airport

    Smoke Gets In Your Eyes … in AA Boeing 767 over Nova Scotia

    What: American Airlines Boeing 767-300 en route from New York JFK airport to Switzerland
    Where: Halifax Nova Scotia
    When: June 9 2009 Tuesday night 8:20 p.m (45 minutes after takeoff)
    Who: 206 on board: 194 passengers and 12 crew
    Why: After takeoff, smoke was detected in the cabin. The flight requested an emergency landing in Halifax. The cause of the smoke was determined to be an electrical fire in the plane’s bathroom ceiling fan which had caught fire after overheating

    A replacement jet was arranged to take the passengers to Zurich.

    Blue Air Plane Returns to Romania after Bird Strike

    Blue Air flight 08-113 had to return and make an emergency landing at Henri Coand? International Airport, Romania, on May 9th.

    The Boeing 737-400 flying to Valencia, Spain, had to return after burning off fuel due to bird strike.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 143 people aboard remained safe.

    Ryanair Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Smoke in Cabin

    Ryanair flight FR-8886 had to make an emergency landing at Orio al Serio International Airport, Italy, on June 23rd.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Brindisi, Italy, was descending toward Orio al Serio Airport when the crew reported smoke in the cabin and declared an emergency.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    UA Flight 1463 Makes Emergency Landing in Wichita

    new-united-logoUnited Airlines flight 1463 en route from Chicago to John Wayne Airport, Los Angeles, made a safe emergency landing at Mid-Continent Airport in Wichita, Kansas, just after 10:30 p.m. on June 29.

    A spokesman with the FAA said that an emergency evacuation slide of the Boeing 737-700 opened up in midair. According to reports, the plane dropped from 38,000 ft. to 11,000 ft. in just 12 minutes due to a loss in cabin pressure.

    The plane landed safely and the United Airlines confirmed that all 96 passengers and 5 crew members aboard remained unhurt.

    Passengers remained seated for about an hour before disembarking. They were taken to their destination on an alternate flight.

    United Airline’s maintenance crew is checking the plane to determine the cause.

    British Airways Flight Returns to London Heathrow

    British airwaysBritish Airways Flight 103 from London Heathrow airport, United Kingdom, to Calgary, Canada, had to return and make an emergency landing on the evening of August 12.

    Smoke was discovered in the cockpit of the Boeing 767 while it was flying over Liverpool. The pilot requested an emergency landing which was immediately granted.

    According to a British Airways spokesperson Michele Kropt, “It [the plane] landed safely and all passengers disembarked as normal.”

    She confirmed that the engineers were inspecting the aircraft to determine the cause of smoke.
