    Amazonaves Owner Dies in Brazil Crash

    What: Amazonaves EMB-810C Seneca PT-EFS en route from Manaus to Santarem
    Where: Manaus
    When: April 21, 2011, 14:52 LT
    Who: 7 fatalities and a dog called Pimpolho
    Why: A minute after takeoff, an Amazonaves Air taxi which crashed at the threshold of the runway in the neighborhood of Tarumãt West Zone at 3 pm on Thursday had the owner, and his wife and son among those aboard. Antonio Neto Picão, his wife, Luciana, and a son, Matthew, 12 died in the crash and were buried in Boa Vista. Two daughters chose not to fly.

    The four other fatalities were Pilot Waldeir Alencar da Silva,, Kelly Cidrônio, Janilça Oliveira Nascimento and Magno Souza. Santos was buried in Manaus, Alves in Minas Gerais and the two other passengers in Santarém. Janilsa and Magno Nascimento Souza were employees.

    The cause of the crash has not been determined but Infraero confirmed that the plane was carrying 7 people, but only has a capacity for 5.

    Serviço de Investigação de Acidentes Aeronáuticos (Seripa) expects a report in 30 days.

    In 2002, an Amazonaves plane crashed in the Amazon;
    In 2003, an Amazonaves crashed during a flight inspection;
    In 2007, an Amazonaves crashed into a house in Manaus.
    All of the crashes were determined to be due to mechanical failure.

    The two engines and propellers of the Amazonaves Seneca (PT-EFS) will be sent to Sao Paulo where they will undergo deconstruction to be examined for signs of defect.

    Jet Blue Flight Hits Rough Patch

    What: Jetblue Airbus A320-200 from New York JFK,NY to Burlington,VT
    Where: Burlington
    When: Feb 19th 2011
    Who: 2 crew injured
    Why: On approach to Burlington, eight minutes prior to landing, the plane encountered turbulence which injured two members of the crew.

    Chicago: United Flight diverts due to smoke

    What: United Airlines A-319 en route from Rochester to Chicago
    Where: Chicago
    When: Mar 5 2010
    Who: 120 passengers and five crew
    Why: Less than an hour after takeoff, smoke was detected in the airbus lavoratory. The flight returned to Buffalo and made a safe landing. The source of the smoke was reported as an auxiliary power unit and also a water pump that started a fire which a flight attendant put out.

    Gulf Air Encounters Turbulence

    What: Gulf Air Airbus 330 en route from Bahrain to the Philippines
    Where: en route over Vietnam
    When: July 12, 2010
    Who: ten injured: seven passengers and three cabin crew
    Why: While en route, the plane encountered what the crew described as “air pockets,” resulting in turbulence that jolted the plane. Some individuals were tossed out of their seats; others suffered contusions. Those injured were hospitalized on landing in the Philippines.

    United Airlines Smoke in Cockpit

    What: United Airlines/Skywest Canadair CRJ-200 en route from Lincoln,NE to Denver,CO
    Where: Lincoln Nebraska
    When: June 6 2011, 7 am
    Who: 53 passengers 3 crew
    Why: On takeoff from Lincoln Airport, the crew detected smoke in the cockpit.

    Pilots returned immediately to Lincoln and made a safe landing. Maintenance examined the plane. Takeoff was delayed for 9 hours.

    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Tulsa

    United Airlines flight UA-3733 made an emergency landing in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on May 24th.

    The plane heading from Omaha, Nebraska, to Houston, Texas, was diverted due to a pressurization problem.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
