    Pilot Walks Away After Ultralight Plane Crashed in Maine

    UltralightAn ultralight plane crash-landed in woods off Porter Road, Fryeburg, Maine on the afternoon of August 23rd.

    The single-seater Aerolite 103, flying from Leavitt Airport, New Hampshire, crashed while attempting an emergency landing at Eastern Slopes Regional Airport, Fryeburg, due to engine failure.

    The pilot, a 56-year-old Pennsylvania man, remained unharmed.

    Three Lightning Strikes A Charm.

    What: Republic Airlines Embraer ERJ-170 on behalf of US Airways en route from Montreal to Philadelphia, PA
    Where: on approach to Philadelphia,
    When: Apr 22nd 2009
    Why: On approach, the airplane was struck by a lightning. The crew did not declare emergency and landed safely with no damage sustained.

    What: US Airways Boeing 757-200 en route from Saint Maarten (Netherlands Antilles) to Philadelphia,PA
    Where: on approach to Philadelphia
    When: Apr 22nd 2009
    Who: 96 passengers and 7 crew
    Why: Although on approach, the plane was struck by lightning at 6000 feet, it landed safely 14 minutes later. Skin damage was reported. This was reportedly lightning strike number two.

    What: AirTran Airways Boeing 717-200 en route from Orlando,FL to Philadelphia,PA
    Where: on approach to Philadelphia
    When: Apr 22nd 2009
    Why: The crew declared emergency an emergency when their nose cone incurred a direct lightning strike. Fortunately the airplane landed safely on runway 27R. ( Runway 27L was still in the process of accommodating the prior lightning strike.) Strike number three.

    This may be hindsight, but it seems to me like three different planes hit with lightning at the same city reportedly within a time span of minutes–maybe air traffic control should have checked weather.com or looked out the window or something…

    Small Plane Crashes in Indiana; 3 People, 1 Dog Killed

    A small plane crashed in a wooded area near Oldenburg, Indiana, on December 16th.

    The incident happened when the single-engine Cessna plane was heading from Kansas City, Missouri, to Frederick, Maryland.

    Three people were killed in the crash. Authorities said two dogs were also on-board; one of them was killed while the one survived.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

    Nicaragua: Antonov 2 Crash

    When: 15-OCT-2009
    Why: While on a test flight, the plane crashed during an emergency landing. Engine failure is presumed to be the cause.

    One civilian mechanic is said to have suffered “a minor stroke” during the sharp decline.

    Pilot Captain Angel del Sol Sequeira Cantillo, along with four crew members, co-pilot Captain Silvio Armando Sanabria Herrera and Maria Mendoza Cano Grisli NCO and civilian mechanics Toruño Ernesto Sergio Garcia and Miguel Angel Castro Pineda .

    Spanair Update

    Based on findings derived from the MD-82’s flight and cockpit voice recorder, the wing flaps of the Spanair airliner (that crashed killing 154 people) were not set for take off, and pilots were unaware of it because the warning alarm did not go off.

    The faulty valve that prevented the first attempt at takeoff was disconnected rather than repaired. Planes are allowed to fly for up to 10 days with the system involved disconnected.

    Newlywed Brazilian Ronaldo Gomes Silva, 25, and his Spanish wife Yanina Celisdibowsky had been living in the UK for three years. a month ago in Sao Paolo, Brazil, they got married; They had just gotten on a plane to visit the Canary Islands, where Yanina was going to meet her in laws for the first time.

    They got on the wrong plane. They were two of the victims of Spanair Flight JK5022.

    Juliao Alves da Silva, the groom’s father said: “I have lost my son and a daughter-in-law. I am destroyed.”

    Piper Crash in Texas Kills Three Salt Lake City Men


    On 12-JAN-2013, at 9:00 a Celtic Bank LLC Piper PA-46-500TP Malibu Meridian en route from Fox field in Paris Texas to Austin, but crashed minutes after takeoff, in Glory Texas.

    There was fog in the area at the time of the crash.

    The three people aboard the plane, pilot Rob Thompson, passenger Michael Endo who was Senior Vice-President of Celtic Bank and the bank’s commercial loan officer, and Michael Dale Bradley who was owner and Real Estate Broker with MBA Realty and who was consulting on a property sale.

    All three men were from Salt Lake City Utah.
