    British Airways Plane Makes Emergency Landing due to Burning Smell

    britishairwaysBritish Airways flight BA327 made an emergency landing at London Heathrow Airport, England, at around 10:30 P.M. on July 27.

    The Airbus A320, en-route from Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, to London Heathrow Airport, England, had to be landed in emergency after the crew detected a “burning smell” in the cockpit.

    The plane carrying 163 passengers landed uneventfully and all passengers remained safe.

    The cause of smell is under investigation.

    Gazelle Helicopter Crashes in the UK

    What: ex-military Gazelle helicopter en route from Stratford-upon-Avon to Yeovilton in Somerset
    Where: in open grassland about 800-900 feet high – one of the highest spots in Gloucestershire, crashed in a field at a farm in Winchcombe, near Cheltenham.
    When: Noon Nov 1
    Who: Two men and a woman
    Why: poor visibility is conjectured to be part of the cause of the crash. It had been flying in heavy mist. No survivors, no cause known yet. The helicopter was described as a wreck of mangled metal. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is investigating.

    Emirates Jet Diverted due to Medical Emergency

    EmiratesAn Emirates flight made an emergency stop at Gatwick Airport in Crawley, England, on March 29.

    According to an airport spokesperson, the flight, heading from JFK International Airport in New York to Dubai, was diverted due to a medical emergency.

    The plane safely landed at 10:51 p.m.

    The nature of medical emergency is not clear at the moment.

    Pia Emergency Landing


    What: Pakistan International Airlines ATR-42-500 en route from Islamabad to Lahore
    Where: Lahore
    When: August 31, 2012
    Who: 46 aboard
    Why: While landing in Lahore in heavy rain, the plane’s right main gear collapsed, and the plane ran off the runway.

    There were no injuries but the plane was damaged. Pia reported that the main gear collapsed and denied earlier reports of injury. No one was hospitalized.

    Passengers disembarked via stairs on the runway shoulder and were provided transportation to the gate.

    American Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Heathrow Airport

    American Airlines flight AA-199 had to divert for an emergency landing at Heathrow Airport, England, on June 1st.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane heading from Milan–Malpensa Airport, Italy, to John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, was diverted after the crew reported issues with the cabin pressure control.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Aer Lingus Plane Makes Emergency Landing due to Smoke in Cockpit

    Aer Lingus flight EI-712 made an emergency landing in Cork, Ireland, on November 2nd.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Heathrow Airport, England, but had to return shortly afterwards due to smoke in the cockpit.

    The plane landed back uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.
