Why: While en route, a crew member noticed a passenger tampering with the bathroom fire suppression system. The pilot diverted to Fargo where they made a safe landing. The media reported something “suspicious” and a “bomb scare.” No bomb was found.
Passengers were taken by bus from Fargo to Grand Forks.
A small plane had to make an emergency landing in a farm field near Cedar Lake, Lake County, northwest Indiana, on September 11th.
The plane was headed to Griffith-Merrillville Airport, Indiana, when it had to divert.
Pilot, who was the only person aboard, remained unharmed.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
Delta Airlines flight DL-444 made an emergency landing at Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport in Rome, Italy, on April 27th.
The Airbus A330-300 plane was flying from John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, when the crew declared emergency due to a hydraulic problem.
The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

What: Spanair McDonnell Douglas MD-87 en route from Madrid to Valencia
Where: Madrid
When: Apr 25 2010
Who: 43 passengers
Why: After takeoff, the flight developed an issue with the hydraulics. The crew decided to return to Madrid where they made a safe landing. A replacement jet was provided for the passengers.
Delta Airlines flight DL-558 made an emergency landing in Tampa, Florida, on March 13th.
The MD-88 aircraft, heading to LaGuardia Airport, New York, had to return after the crew reported issues with right hand engine.
The plane landed uneventfully. All the passengers and crew members remained safe.

What: Continental Airlines Boeing 737-800 en route from Washington DC to Houston
Where: Washington’s International Airport
When: Feb 28th 2011, 7:45 a.m
Who: 44 passengers
Why: On takeoff, the plane’s engines digested birds. Following the bird strike, the plane diverted to Washington’s International Airport and made a safe landing. Passengers were booked on alternative flights.

The plane landed safely. All one hundred and eighty-nine passengers aboard remained unharmed.
