What: Continental Airlines Boeing 737-800 en route from Washington DC to Houston
Where: Washington’s International Airport
When: Feb 28th 2011, 7:45 a.m
Who: 44 passengers
Why: On takeoff, the plane’s engines digested birds. Following the bird strike, the plane diverted to Washington’s International Airport and made a safe landing. Passengers were booked on alternative flights.
China Southern Airlines flight CZ303 was forced to divert and make an emergency landing at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Netherlands, on the afternoon of August 3.
The Boeing Dreamliner, heading from Guangzhou, China, to Heathrow Airport, London, had to be diverted after it ran out of fuel mid-air.
The plane, with a capacity of boarding 335 passengers, landed uneventfully.
No injuries were reported.
A Virgin Australia plane had to make an emergency landing at Brisbane International Airport in Queensland, Australia, on February 17.
The plane was heading from Sydney International Airport to Los Angeles International Airport, California, when the airline received a bomb threat and decided to divert it for an emergency landing.
The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained unhurt.
The authorities later confirmed that the threat was a hoax.
Air New Zealand flight NZ-296 had to return and make an emergency landing in Auckland, New Zealand, on August 20th.
The Boeing 777-200 plane took off for Apia, Samoa, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew suspected a hydraulic leak.
The plane landed uneventfully. All 293 people aboard remained safe.
Japan Transocean Air flight NU-44 had to return and make an emergency landing at Naha Airport, Okinawa, Japan, on May 6th.
The Boeing 737-400 flying to Nagoya, Japan, had to return after the first officer’s windshield cracked.
The plane landed safely.
All 148 passengers and 5 crew members remained safe.
Air India flight AI 102 had to make an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, India, on January 12.
The Boeing 777-300, flying from New York, had to make a precautionary landing after the crew noticed low pressure in one of its tyres.
The plane landed safely.
All 325 passengers aboard remained unhurt.

What: Norwegian Air Shuttle Boeing 737-300 en route from Oslo to Bergen
Where: Stavanger Norway
When: Mar 20th 2010
Who: 140 passengers and 5 crew
Why: While en route, the plane developed vibration and control problems, and the destination, Bergen was experiencing high wind conditions. After issuing the emergency alert, they diverted the flight to Sola Airport where weather conditions were stable, and , where they circled, then were able to safely.
