Why: After being struck by lightning, American Airlines Flight 1487 returned to Chicago where it was examined by maintenance.
Passengers were provided an alternative plane that had not been struck by lightning.
Jet Time flight JO-835 had to reject takeoff from Helsinki, Finland, on September 14th.
The Boeing 737-700 plane was accelerating to takeoff for Varna, Bulgaria, when the crew received a door indication and rejected takeoff.
The plane slowed down safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
American Airlines flight AA-87 had to return and make an emergency landing at Heathrow Airport in London, England, on March 11th.
The Boeing 767-300 aircraft, heading to O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois, had to be turned back after the crew needed to shut down an engine due to technical issues.
The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

What: Astraeus Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Alicante,SP to Keflavik
Where: west of Brest France
When: Oct 23rd 2009
Why: While en route, the plane experienced an engine failure. The flight diverted to London for a safe landing. Passengers were flown out on a replacement flight.
Condor Airlines flight DE-2291 had to reject take off from Cape Town, South Africa, on November 20th.
The Boeing 767-300 plane was accelerating to take off for Frankfurt, Germany, when the crew reported a bird strike and rejected take off.
The emergency services had to cool down the right hand brakes as the plane vacated the runway.

What: Air Zimbabwe Boeing 737 en route from Victoria Falls
Where: Harare Airport, Zimbabwe

Why: Passengers coming back from Victoria falls got a surprise today as, en route, the plane’s fire alarms went off.
The pilots made a safe emergency landing at Harare. The cause of the alarm is being investigated, and there’s no indication of whether passengers were provided transportation, housing or if they had to wait until the plane was examined/repaired.
Southwest Airlines flight WN-1658 had to make an emergency landing in Portland, Maine, on April 3rd.
The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Baltimore, Maryland, was on approach to Portland when the crew declared an emergency due to a problem with the flaps.
The plane landed at higher than normal speed. There were 180 people aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.
