    Delta Airlines Flight Rejects Takeoff in Michigan due to Engine Failure

    Delta Airlines flight DL-1633 had to reject takeoff at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, Detroit, Michigan, on December 21st.

    The McDonnell Douglas MD-88 was accelerating to takeoff for Miami, Florida, when the crew reported the failure of left hand engine.

    The plane returned to the apron.

    The passengers were accommodated in a replacement plane.

    Boeing Delivers First 777 Freighters to Southern Air

    EVERETT, Wash., March 3 — Boeing (NYSE: BA) has delivered two 777 Freighters to Southern Air Holdings, Inc., the first 777s to join the Norwalk, Conn.-based cargo carrier’s fleet.

    The addition of these two airplanes makes Southern Air the world’s first aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) operator to feature the 777 Freighter.

    “We are thrilled to take delivery of our first two Boeing 777 Freighters, the most advanced aircraft of its kind, offering unmatched payload, range and fuel efficiency,” said Daniel J. McHugh, CEO of Southern Air. “The addition of these two airplanes begins a new era for Southern Air, as we are now able to provide a mix of next- and current-generation freighter airplanes to serve our customers’ needs. Boeing is a valued business partner and we are proud to celebrate this milestone for our company with them.”

    Southern Air has entered into an agreement to operate the two 777 Freighters on behalf of Thai Airways International. Thai Airways will utilize the full capacity of the 777 Freighters, becoming the first carrier in Southeast Asia to offer this capability to its freight customers.

    AA Plane Returns to Saint Louis after Bird Strike

    american airlinesAmerican Airlines flight AA-2444 had to return and make an emergency landing in Saint Louis, Missouri, on November 19th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Los Angeles, California, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew reported a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    The NTSB is investigating.

    PIA Flight Diverts to Lahore due to Cargo Smoke Indication

    Pakistan International Airlines flight PK-755 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Lahore, Pakistan, on October 11th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from Sialkot, Pakistan, to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was diverted after the crew received a cargo smoke indication.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Fighter Jets Escort Korean Airlines Plane to Stuttgart, Germany

    Korean Airlines flight KE-917 was intercepted by two supersonic fighter jets on July 15th.

    The Boeing 777-300 plane heading from Seoul, South Korea, to Zurich, Switzerland, was over Berlin, Germany, when it lost communication with the ATC.

    The German Air Force subsequently dispatched two fighter jets that escorted the plane to Stuttgart, Germany.

    The plane landed safely in Stuttgart. All two hundred and eleven passengers aboard remained unharmed.

    When: Nov 9th 2010
    Who: 13 on board
    Why: North East of Iqaluit, low oil forced pilots to shut down an engine. The pilot dropped to a lower altitude and landed safely at Iqaluit.
