When: June 14
Why: While taxiing to the gate, the plane jettisoned the tail cone. The emergency slide deployed through the opening in the plane.
Someone inside the plane released the back of the aircraft, initiating the situation. No one was injured, although the crew was surprised.

What: Lionair McDonnell Douglas MD-90 flight JT-793 from Makassar to Jakarta. Lionair is on the List of air carriers banned in the European Union.
Where: Jakarta
When: Mar 9th 2009
Who: 166 passengers and 6 crew (Detikcom reported 168)
Why: While landing in heavy rain, the airplane caught a gust from the left which ran the plane off the runway. Damage was incurred to the front gear, wings, and the main gear struts collapsed.
The subsequent airport closure forced a Citilink Garuda Boeing 737 in a fuel emergency to reroute.
Azur Air flight ZF-6334 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Novosibirsk, Russia, on January 23rd.
The Boeing 757-200 plane heading from Phuket, Thailand, to Samara, Russia, was diverted after the airport crews found pieces of rubber on the departure runway.
The plane landed safely. All 116 passengers and 7 crew members remained safe.

What: American Airlines Boeing 767-300 en route from Paris to Dallas
Where: Reykjavik
When: 13 April 2010
Who: 133 passengers and 12 crew
Why: While en route, five crew members became ill from chemical fumes aboard flight 49. The flight diverted to Keflavik Iceland where they made a safe landing. London was sending an alternative flight to pick up the stranded passengers and crew and continue to their destination.
There is no indication yet of the source of the fumes. Eight ambulances were on hand to treat those affected.

What: American Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Los Angeles,CA to Dallas Ft. Worth,TX
Where: Los Angeles
When: Dec 18th 2009
Who: 193 passengers
Why: On takeoff, the right main gear door was stuck open, and the landing gear would not retract. The plain turned around and landed safely at LAX. Passengers debarked and were provided an alternative flight.

What: Delta Airlines Boeing 777-200 en route from New York JFK, NY to Tokyo Japan,
Where: New York
When: Nov 5th 2009
Who: not available
Why: While en route, the plane dropped parts, although arriving safely in Japan.
Investigation proved the part to be an engine exhaust cone lost in Long Island during departure. The purpose of the engine exhaust cone is to eliminate the “vortex of the exhaust stream, optimizing the airflow and improving engine efficiency”

What: American Airlines Boeing 767-300 en route from Paris to Dallas Ft. Worth
Where: Shannon
When: Mar 22nd 2012
Why: While en route and over the Atlantic, the plane developed smoke in the cabin. Apparently there was also a mechanical glitch as well that helped the pilots determine they needed to divert.
Pilots flew the 200 miles back to Shannon where they made a safe but overweight landing less than an hour later. Emergency vehicles were on standby.
The source of the smoke was an oven in the galley.
A replacement jet was provided as N392AN is inspected.
