    Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Crete Municipal Airport

    small planeA small plane made an emergency landing at the Crete Municipal Airport, Nebraska, on November 25.

    According to Saline County Emergency Management officials, the plane, heading from Crete to Salina, Kansas, was forced to turn back and land in emergency due to a landing gear malfunction.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    There were 2 people aboard including the pilot Mitch Edwards. Both of them remained unharmed.

    The FAA is investigating.

  • RAF Emergency Landing

    What: RAF F/A-18 Hornet taking off from RAAF base at Williamtown
    Where: RAF base at Williamtown
    When: declared a mayday at around 12.15pm Sept 25
    Why: After declaring an emergency, the flight circled back and landed. There were no reported injuries, and a maintenance investigation is underway. Details of the mayday have not been released.

    Turbulence Derails Qantas over India

    What: Qantas Airways A380 en route from London to Singapore to Sydney
    Where: over India
    When: Jan 7, 2012
    Who: 450 passengers 7 injured
    Why: While en route, the pilots encountered a storm system. Pilots were in the process of navigating around the storm when the Airbus encountered turbulence. Though seatbelt signs came on, not everyone was in their seat at the time. Four passengers were hospitalized after arrival in Singapore. There was a twenty-four hour delay in the final leg to Sydney.

    PIA Jet Returns to Karachi Due to Engine Failure

    pia-logoPakistan International Airlines flight PK 521 had to return and make an emergency landing in Karachi, Pakistan, on December 11.

    The ATR-42-500 aircraft, heading to Turbat, Balochistan, was forced to return after one of its engines failed.

    The plane safely touched the runway at 7:40 a.m.

    All the passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Vulcan Bomber Makes Emergency Landing in Scotland

    airshowA Vulcan bomber had to make an emergency landing at Prestwick Airport, South Ayrshire, Scotland, on September 6.

    The plane had to make an emergency landing due to a problem with its landing gear.

    It was the last flying Vulcan bomber of its kind, belonging to Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, England. The flight was arranged for an airshow, which had to be cancelled after the incident.

    The plane landed safely and was returned to Doncaster after examination.

    What: US Airways Airbus A319-100 en route from Atlanta to Charlotte
    Where: Atlanta
    When: May 13 2011
    Who: 128 passengers
    Why: After takeoff from Atlanta, the plane was climbing and unable to retract the gear. The pilots returned to Atlanta and made a safe landing.
