    Ultralight Emergency landing, takeoff, crash

    On January 10, 2013, a Jabiru J200 ultralight piloted Dennis Horn and co-pilot Manfred Scherbius made a successful emergency landing on the beach crashed on takeoff when it stuck the water. The accident occurred on Martins Bay beach, near Warkworth New Zealand. Nobody on the beach was injure, which is a feat, because the beach was crowded with people in a sandcastle competition. On the takeoff attempt, a wing and propeller broke. The pilot and co-pilot walked away from the incident.

    S Dakota Medical Helicopter Bird Strike

    What: (new) Avera Careflight helicopter
    Where: S Dakota
    When: November 2, 2009
    Who: Pilot Craig Hilzendager and EMT Terry Willis
    Why: While en route, the new helicopter had a bird strike (specifically duck) that shattered the helicopter cockpit window, and injured the EMT.

    The landing was simplified by night vision goggles which made it possible for the pilot and EMT to be able to see the ground.

    Disruptive Jet Blue Passenger Facing Federal Indictment

    What: Jetblue Airbus A320-200 en route from New York to Los Angeles
    Where: Denver
    When: Aug 19 2012
    Who: one disorderly
    Why: On August 22, Marcus Covington was charged with abusive sexual contact and interference with flight crew members and attendants.

    The August 19 flight where the infraction occurred was en route from NY to LA. The Captain diverted to Denver after Covington groped a pregnant woman, argued with flight attendants, and was taken into custody by a special agent who was aboard the flight. Covington, who had been seen taking eight pills of some kind, accosted the pregnant woman near the restroom.

    The complaint says “He then ran his hands up the front of her body going from her crotch up to her breasts. He started with the back of his hands, but turned his hands with his palms facing her as he ran his hands over her breasts. She pushed him away and she got behind the flight attendant that had come up behind her. She then went into the lavatory where she remained crying for approximately five minutes.”

    Covington left the plane in handcuffs.

    Cessna Crash Kills Hunter, Pilot

    A Cessna U206F Stationair owned/operated by Wilderness Aircraft I LLC went missing east of Donnelly, Idaho while en route from McCall Municipal Airport and the Salmon River Basin. Three planes had been making the 12 minute flight but only two made it to the destination. The Idaho Army National Guard helicopter who were searching in an inaccessible area cancelled due to bad weather and mountain snow. The search resumed on Thursday when the wreckage was found on the side of a steep mountain.

    The pilot and two passengers were going to the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness.

    Hikers to the wreckage discovered that pilot Dan Wilson and passengers Steve Hall and Mike Wolf had not survived the crash. It took rescue workers two hours to hike to the wreckage 7,800 feet up the mountain.

    The NTSB will be investigating.

    Cessna Hits Car in San Bernardino County

    What: single-engine Cessna 182 en route to Adelanto
    Where: Summit Valley Road and Maple Avenue, San Bernardino County
    When: July 5, 2011, 7:30 pm
    Who: pilot and passenger
    Why: The plane lost power while en route and made an emergency landing aiming for a dirt road but ended up hitting a car, and butting up to an empty house. Neither the pilot nor the passenger was admitted to the hospital. the brush fire caused by the crash was brought under control.

    Three Die in French Plane Crash

    On August 8, 2013, a Massif Central Aviation Socata TBM700N with 3 aboard was en route from Toussus Le-Novle to Clermont-Ferrand.

    The plane crashed with tourists aboard, in the town of Vertaizon, at 9:40 a.m. The tourists were a brother and sister. Everyone aboard, including the pilot, was over 70 years old. The BEA is investigating.

    The plane and it’s engine shattered on impact, leaving a debris field of a hundred square meters
    .

    Bad weather—low ceiling, low visibility and a very heavy rain—and mechanical problems are suspected to be behind the crash.
