Tam Airbus Hydraulics Failure Diverts from Congonhas

Where: Diverted to Sao Paulo Viracopos Airport
When: Aug 8th 2009
Who: 38 people on board
Why: Hydraulics failed on approach to Sao Paulo so the pilots declared an emergency and diverted to the longer runway at Vircacopos Airport.

A good decision here! Better to divert than to have a repeat of the TAM Airlines Flight 3054 (JJ 3054) crash on July 17, 2007. The 35L runway at Congonhas is 6,365 feet long, which is why the Congonhas nickname is “aircraft carrier.” The Viracopos/Campinas International Airport has a 10630 foot runway.

    Fed Ex Cautionary Landing in Oklahoma City

    What: FedEx Airbus A306 en route from Memphis to Denver
    Where: Will Rogers World Airport.
    When: Sept 7 2010, 5 p.m.
    Who: crew
    Why: While en route, the plane indicated smoke in the cargo hold. The pilot diverted to Oklahoma City, where they made a safe landing. No fire was found.

    Lufthansa Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Munich

    Lufthansa flight LH-521 made an emergency landing in Munich, Germany, on December 19th.

    The Airbus A340-600 plane flying from Mexico City, Mexico, was descending toward Munich when the crew received a deflated tire indication.

    The emergency services were on standby as the plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained safe.

    Ryanair Plane Diverts to France due to Medical Emergency

    ”RyanairA Ryanair flight had to divert and make an emergency landing at Nantes Atlantique Airport, France, on September 26.

    The plane, en-route from Manchester, UK to Faro, Portugal, had to be diverted after a passenger fell sick mid-air.

    According to an airline spokesperson, “This flight was diverted after a customer became ill on board. The aircraft landed normally and the customer was met by medical personnel, where they disembarked for further treatment, before the aircraft continued onward to Faro.

    World Atlantic Airways Plane Suffers Gear Collapse at Alexandria International Airport

    World Atlantic Airways flight RPN-807 suffered a gear collapse after landing at Alexandria International Airport, Louisiana, on April 20th.

    The incident happened when the plane was coming from Chicago, Illinois.

    The plane became disabled on the runway. All one hundred and one people aboard remained unharmed.

    The plane was operating on behalf of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
