What: Taca A320 en route from San Salvador (El Salvador) to Tegucigalpa (Honduras) Where: Tegucigalpa When: May 30th 2008 Who: 124 passengers and 11 crew Why: On landing at Tegucigalpa, the A320 overran the runway of Tegucigalpa Toncontin Airport’s runway 2. The crash occurred in bad weather. Overrunning the runway, the plane continued to crash into a store and cars.

Juan Valero and Hernan Leal – the pilot and co-pilot, respectively – and agents Yesid Vidal and Gustavo Ibañez. Why: The helicopter was missing since early Tuesday. It was located by search and rescue teams in the southern Colombian province of Putumayo. The wreckage was found 10 km from the town of Villa Garzon, Republic of Colombia. The helicopter’s last known operation was returning from transporting workers with the government to manually eradicate local illegal coca crops; the last known communication was with air traffic controllers at 1.25 a.m. Tuesday.

The plane passed in close proximity within Cimber Sterling Canadair CRJ-200 which had received takeoff clearance.
Havarikommission, AKA the Danish Accident Investigation Board determined there was a serious incident (risk of collision) and commissioned an investigation.

What: Manx2 leased from Flightline Swearingen SA-227BC Metro III en route from Belfast to Cork Where: Cork Airport, Ireland When: Feb 10, 2011 Who: 6 fatalities, 6 hospitalized (12 aboard) 10 passengers, 2 crew Why: The plane was on approach to Runway 17 in fog and low visability. The plane made a go-around. The pilot attempted a second landing on Runway 35. The flight made a second go-around; on the second approach to Runway 17 the aircraft crashed and flipped.
The plane is an 18-seater Fairchild Metroliner leased by Manx 2 with the flight number BPS 7100.
The Spanish pilot and his British co-pilot are among the fatalities; also, Pat Cullinan, a partner in KPMG from Omagh and worked in the Belfast office of the accountancy firm; businessman Brendan McAleese from Co Tyrone, who is is a first cousin of Dr Martin McAleese, husband of President Mary McAleese.
A public announcement said “three men from the North, two men resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom, and a male Spanish national” were killed.
The six survivors (5 men and 1 woman) have been hospitalized at Cork University Hospital.

1015hrs 10 February 2011: Flight Avia No FLT400C a metroliner SW4 with ten passengers and two crew has crashed at Cork Airport. No details of injuries or fatalities are available. The aircraft made an approach to Runway 17 in low vis conditions (Category 2) and went around and did not land and attempted a second landing on Runway 35. The aircraft then went around a second time and came back for an approach to Runway 17. On the second approach to Runway 17 the aircraft crashed adjacent to Taxiway C. Rescue and Fire crew are in attendance. There is a fire and debris has been scattered onto the runway and over a wide area. The accident will be investigated by the Air Accident Unit of the Dept. of Transport. This is correct at this time and may be amended as more detail becomes available.
Ireland is conducting the investigation.

What: ACS Helicopter LLC Bell 407 helicopter Where: Mount Pocono When: Oct 11, 2012 Who: Two fatalities, one injury Why: The Tuesday wreck piloted by a full time American Airlines pilot (part time with ACS Helicopter LLC) was discovered at 2:30 a.m. wednesday. The helicopter encountered bad weather as it passed through northern Monroe County. Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport is not equipped for receiving distress calls.
The helicopter was found on its right side, leaking fluids, with broken rotor and tail.
Fatalities of the crash were Pilot William Ellsworth, 52, of Califon, N.J., and passenger Tighe Sullivan, 51, of Darien, Conn.

Contact Photographer Mark Kopczak What: American Airlines MD-80 plane flight 2076 headed from El Paso to Dallas Where: Abilene Regional Airport When: The in-flight emergency was discovered about 20 miles away from Abilene Who: 61 people were on board the plane, including three crew members. Why: When a warning light flared up signaling a possible generator issue, and the flight then landed safely at Abilene. Passengers were provided water and snacks at the terminal, and the plane departed at 12:45 p.m. to continue the flight.
