    SunExpress Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Hamburg

    SunExpress flight XQ-171 had to return and make an emergency landing in Hamburg, Germany, on December 23rd.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Antalya, Turkey, but had to turn back due to a tail strike indication.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    What: Lufthansa Boeing 747-400 en route from New York to Frankfurt/Main
    Where: JFK,NY
    When: Oct 11th 2009
    Why: Prior to take-off, the plane was believed to run over runway lights, which blew out the plane’s main gear tires. The flight was delayed while the flat/damaged tires were removed and new tires were installed.

    JetBlue Flight Suffers Bird Strike Near Salt Lake City International Airport

    JetBlue flight B6-532 suffered a bird strike near Salt Lake City International Airport, Utah, on November 7th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane flying from Long Beach, California, was on final approach to Salt Lake City International Airport when a bird hit it.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

  • Civilian Tanker Crashes on Navy Base


    What: Omega Air Refueling Boeing 707 tanker en route from Point Mugu naval air base
    Where: near the beach, Point Mugu naval air base, California
    When: May 18, 20115:25 p.m.
    Who: 3 crew
    Why: The plane skidded off the runway while taking off, and burned for three hours before being extinguished by a full response team, a chopper and three fire engines.

    The plane was loaded with 150,000 pounds of fuel. After a chopper doused water with no discernible effect, flight crews concentrated on letting the plane burn out within a small perimeter. Plumes of black smoke reached Malibu.

    The three-member (civilian) crew walked away with minor injury. Alexandria, Va.-based-Omega Aerial Refueling Services, Inc. contracts with the military.

    The NTSB is investigating.

    SpiceJet Plane Overruns Runway at Mumbai Airport

    SpiceJet flight SG-703 overran the end of the runway at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, in Mumbai, India, on September 19th.

    The incident happened when the Boeing 737-800 plane, flying from Varanasi, India, was attempting to land during heavy rain.

    The plane came to stop on soft ground. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
