Spicejet Emergency Landing at Thoothukudi

On July 29, 2013, a Spicejet de Havilland Dash 8-200 with 49 aboard was en route from Chennai to Thoothukudi (AKA Tuticorin). After a safe flight, the plane had a tail strike on landing at Thoothukudi Airport. The damaged plane was grounded pending examination.

Passengers returning to Chennai on the next scheduled flight were provided alternative transportation.

Passengers described a bounce, and then the tail making a grating sound as it landed on the runway.

There are no reports of passenger injury.

Pudukottai police and airport security officials responded to the scene.

    Bomb Scare

    What: Oman Air Boeing 737-800 en route from Muscat to Chennai
    Where: Mumbai
    When: May 25, 2009
    Who: 140 passengers
    Why: When a passenger found a suspicious object and a letter which threatened to kill all the passengers aboard the flight, the crew requested an emergency landing.

    Another source quoted: ‘a flight attendant had found a note in one of the lavatories saying “you will all die. Bye.”‘

    The flight landed safely and the passengers were directed to another plane.

    Endeavor Air Plane makes Safe Landing in New York after Bird Strike

    Endeavor AirEndeavor Air flight 9E-3885/ DL-3885 made a safe landing at LaGuardia Airport, New York, on April 21st.

    The Canadair CRJ-900, flying from Madison, Wisconsin, was on approach to New York when a bird impacted the aircraft.

    The plane received minor damage.

    All people onboard remained unharmed.

    Kochi: Air Arabia Bird Strike

    What: Air Arabia Airbus A320-200 en route from Kochi to Sharjah
    Where: Cochin International Airport
    When: October 29, 2010 8:15 pm
    Who: 154 passengers, 6 crew
    Why: After takeoff, the flight suffered a problem, and according to officials a bird strike “was not ruled out”. It took fifteen minutes to return to the airport to make a safe landing after the bird strike.

    Malmo Aviation Plane Returns to Germany due to Gear Problem

    Malmo Aviation flight TF-9887 had to return for a safe landing at Cologne Bonn Airport, Cologne, North Rhine- Westphalia, Germany on February 13.

    The Avro RJ-100, heading from Cologne to Malmo, Sweden, was mid-air when the crew reported some problem with its gear, causing it to return.

    The plane landed safely.

    All people aboard remained unhurt.

    Two Injured as Helicopter Crashes in Sarasota County

    A helicopter crashed near Kenisco Road in South Venice, Sarasota County. Florida, on December 1.

    Authorities said the helicopter, that took off from Venice Regional Airport with a female student pilot and a male teacher on-board, made a rough landing in a heavily wooded area of Lemon Bay Preserve.

    The student sustained facial/head injuries and was airlifted to Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The teacher was taken to Venice Bayfront Health.

    The FAA is investigating.
