    Bird-Hit Southwest Airlines Flight Returns to Los Angeles

    Southwest Airlines flight WN-3356 had to make an emergency landing in Los Angeles, California, on January 8th.

    The plane took off for San Francisco, California, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew reported a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    UA Lands in Casper

    What: United Airlines/Skywest Canadair CRJ-200 en route from Denver to Casper
    Where: Casper/Natrona County Airport
    When: 10:30 am
    Who: 43 passengers
    Why: On approach, the plane developed a mechanical problem with its wing flap. The plane landed safely, and was sent to maintenance for work on the wing flaps.

    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Charlotte

    American Airlines flight AA-1668 made an emergency landing in Charlotte, North Carolina, on August 15th.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane took off for Chicago, Illinois, but had to turn back after the right-hand engine stalled.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Plane Crash in Wyoming Leaves Two Dead

    A small plane crashed near Evanston, Wyoming, on February 18th.

    The incident happened near Bear River when the plane was transporting two people from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

    Both occupants were killed in the crash.

    Fed Ex Crash in Wichita

    What: Federal Express turboprop Cessna Caravan
    Where: West 47th Street South, Wichita Mid-Continent Airport
    When: Nov. 6, 2012
    Who: 1 fatality
    Why: Pilot Brian Quinn had taken off from Wichita Mid-Continent Airport but turned back, declaring Mayday, after developing engine trouble, with “oil on the windshield.”

    The pilot landed in a grass field, crossed it and struck a tree row two miles south of the airport.

    He died at the scene. Sedgwick County and Wichita emergency workers responded. The accident is under investigation.

  • Aramark Workers Threaten Strike

    Failed contract negotiations at Logan airport may lead to a strike, and disruption in service. Even though they are upset over stalled negotiations regarding worker’s rights (they earn between $8 and $9 an hour, with few or no benefits, and that they have gone years without a raise), the strike was postponed due to Massachusetts Port Authority security concerns.
