    Santo Domingo: Stowaway Falls off plane

    What: Amerijet International/ABX Air Boeing 767-200 en route from Santo Domingo to Miami
    Where: Santo Domingo
    When: Feb 18th 2010
    Who: Flight crew (cargo flight)
    Why: After takeoff, Las Americas International Airport Air traffic controllers witnessed the unknown individual falling out of the Boeing’s wheel well. The flight continued to its destination. The stowaway’s body was recovered, although it remains unidentified. Stowaways would normally fall off or freeze (40 below zero at altitudes).

    Delhi Emergency Landing

    What: London-bound Air India Boeing 777-300 flight AI-111 en route from Delhi
    Where: Delhi
    When: Saturday. The flight took off at 6:50 am. Emergency was declared at the airport at 7:50 am and it was withdrawn at 8:25 am after a safe landing.
    Who: 115 passengers and 15 crew members, all safe
    Why: After flying for 30 minutes, the alarm sounded, the pilot detected smoke in the cabin. and returned to the airport under Emergency conditions.

    Rio: Light Poles, Trees and Power Box Taken out by Plane Maintenance

    What: Canadian Air Transat Airbus A310-300
    Where: Tom Jobim International Airport, Rio de Janeiro
    When: Dec 13, 2009
    Who: Maintenance
    Why: During a maintenance check, the plane jumped “chocks,” crossed the tarmac, crashed into two light poles, trees and a power box next to Tom Jobim International Airport maintenance hangar.

    Damage was limited to the leading edge slats of both wings, and engine nose cowls.

    The plane was undergoing tests by the Tap Maintenance and Engineering.

    Do you think it passed?
    Is this like the infamous “operation was a success but the patient died?” At least there were no reported injuries.

    Air Berlin Plane Returns to Germany after Problem with Flaps

    air berlinAir Berlin flight AB-7346 had to return and make an emergency landing at Munich Airport, Munich, Germany, on December 31.

    The Airbus A330-200, flying towards Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, had to return due to some issue with its flaps.

    The plane landed safely.

    No injuries were reported.

    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Boston

    United Airlines flight UA-1258 made an emergency landing in Boston, Massachusetts, on October 23rd.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Chicago, Illinois, was on approach to Boston when the crew reported they had a blown tire and declared an emergency.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Crumlin East Pilatus Crash

    What: Irish Air Corps Pilatus PC-9(M) out of Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel
    Where: Crumlin East near Cornamona in Connemara Ireland
    When: 12-OCT-2009
    Who: 2 fatalities: Captain Derek Furniss, 32, from Rathfarnham in Dublin and Cadet David Jevens, 22, from Glynn in Co Wexford.
    Why: The crash occurred in a remote area during a training flight. Two other planes involved in the same exercise returned safely to Galway airport. The crash is under investigation.
