A small plane made an emergency landing in a corn field near the intersection of Mt. Auburn Road and Main, Benton County, Iowa, at 4:10 p.m. on June 3.
The pilot decided to make this hard landing after some mechanical problem started generating smoke in the plane.
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office said that the pilot was the only person on-board and he was not injured.
Benton County, Black Hawk County, and La Porte City Fire and Police responded to the call.
Sun Country Airlines Flight 123 had to make an emergency landing at the Boise Airport, Idaho, at around 4 p.m. on September 25.
According to the airport authorities, the decision for emergency landing was made after a warning light indicated an engine fire. The charter flight was en-route from Lewiston, Idaho, to Laughlin, Nevada, at the time.
The Boeing 737 landed uneventfully and no one was injured.
The investigation confirmed that there was no evidence of engine fire. The aircraft’s warning light indicator is being repaired.
ExpressJet flight 5106 had to make an emergency landing at Columbia Metropolitan Airport in South Carolina, at around 5:30 p.m. on November 19.
According to the FAA, the flight, en-route from Atlanta, Georgia to Wilmington, North Carolina was diverted, after the pilot reported pressurization problem.
The plane landed uneventfully and no one was injured.
A 1972 Piper Cherokee lost power and crash landed on sand near Caspersen Beach on Venice Island, Sarasota County, Florida, on July 27.
Spokesperson of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Wendy Rose, confirmed that none of the two people aboard the plane were injured in the incident. However a man, identified as Ommy Irizarry, 36, who was walking on the beach with his 9 year old daughter, was killed. His daughter, Oceana Irizarry, was critically injured and was airlifted to Children’s hospital in St. Petersburg. But on July 29, the authorities confirmed that she had succumbed to her injuries. They belonged to Fort Stewart, Georgia.
It is not yet clear whether the two victims were hit by the plane or debris.
According to Rose, at 2:45 p.m., the Venice airport received a distress call from the plane’s pilot. “They were contacted by a pilot whose small plane was in distress. He knew he couldn’t make it back to the airport and was going to try to land on the beach. And he did land at the edge of the water on the beach,” she said.
The NTSB is investigation the incident.
United Airlines flight UA-144 returned and made an emergency landing at Honolulu International Airport, Hawaii, on October 17.
The Boeing 767-400, heading towards Washington Dulles International Airport, Virginia, had to return due to mechanical malfunction.
The plane with 299 people aboard landed safely.
No injuries were reported.
Japan Air Commuter flight 3X-3768 made an emergency landing in Kagoshima, Japan, on December 10th.
The plane flying from Nakatane, Japan, was approaching Kagoshima Airport when the crew noticed smoke in the cockpit and cabin.
The plane continued for a safe landing,
All twenty-six passengers and four crew members remained unharmed.
Southwest Airlines flight WN-1495 made a safe landing following a bird strike in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on February 7th.
The Boeing 737-700 plane flying from Dallas Love Field, Texas, was on final approach to Fort Lauderdale when one of the engines ingested a bird.
The plane continued for safe landing.
Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
