    Narcotics Chopper Crash in Colombia Kills 8, 4 Survive


    What: Colombian Police Bell UH-1 Huey en route from La Salina to Yopal
    Where: La Salina, Casanare Province Colombia
    When: June 11, 2011
    Who: 11 aboard, 8 fatalities
    Why: In Bogata, a police Huey crashed on take-off when it became entangled with electrical cables (high voltage wires). Mechanical failure may have been involved. Seven died on the scene, and one en route.

    The deceased included four helicopter crewmen (Pilot Captain Manuel Niño Nestor Acosta, co-pilot Lt. Fuentes Fabián Meneses and technical sub Leandro Mayor Sanchez) and four members of the police anti-narcotics service (Gutierrez Mendoza Eimer, John Contreras Lobo, John Jewel Delgado, Wilson Germain Medina Correa Delgado and Castillo). Four surviving narcotics officers (Miguel Ochoa Assistant Parrado, Domingo Gamarra Roso, Orlando Castillo and Jose Jaimes Torres Vesga) have been hospitalized.

    The helicopter was completely destroyed.

    The chopper’s registration number was PLC-0731

    Small plane crash kills Rockefeller

    The weather in White Plains was foggy and rainy when a Piper Meridian single-engine turbo prop missed a residence and crashed on a horse farm near Westchester County Airport, killing the pilot, Richard Rockefeller. Rockefeller was a doctor who had just celebrated his father’s 99th birthday. Weather may have been responsible for the accident. Rockefeller did not report a mayday.

    There was no one else aboard.

    The debris field covered a hundred feet. Rockefeller was 64 years old, and leaves behind two adult children and a wife.

    The FAA and NTSB are investigating. The crash occurred on Friday June 13th.

    Embraer Emergency Landing in Elmira

    What: American Eagle Embraer ERJ-135 en route from Toronto to New York
    Where: Toronto
    When: Jun 6th 2010
    Why: After takeoff, the plane developed a leak and shut down an engine. The flight diverted to Elmira where they made a safe landing minus one engine.

    Fatal Ak Bars Aero/Tatarstan Boeing Flight 363

    On November 17, 2013 at 6:23 pm, Flight 363, an Ak Bars Aero/Tatarstan Boeing 737-500 en route from Moscow to Kazan, after several go-arounds, and more than one landing pass. On the second (?) attempt, an hour later, it crashed on landing at Kazan. On touchdown, the jet’s nose hit the ground.

    The plane caught fire on impact after a fuel tank caught fire. None of the 44 passengers or 6 crew survived the fire.

    The leased 23 year old plane was registered as VQ-BBN.

    The passenger list includes Alexander V. Antonov (regional head of Russia’s Federal Security Service) and Irek Minikhanov, son of the president of Tatarstan.

    Brazilian controller won’t answer questions

    Let me ask you, are the controllers going to be the fall guys for an insufficient and badly surfaced runway, out of service planes, an underbudgeted airport system and governmental corner cutting?

    Business Flight Ends in Field

    What: Beechcraft A36TC Bonanza 36 en route from Albany Int’l Airport
    Where: Clifton Park, NY
    When: August 15, 2012, 7:30 a.m.
    Who: 2 aboard, 1 fatality, 1 injury
    Why: After taking off, the plane stalled 12 miles north of Albany. The plane crashed in a suburb. passenger Walter F. Uccellini and his business partner, Jim Quinn were aboard. Uccellini died in the crash; Quinn suffered head trauma and was hospitalized at Albany Medical Center.

    The plane landed stopped between trees and did not strike any buildings. Quinn may have been attempting to land on the road. Before the land became a subdivision, it was an emergency landing field.
