    Small Plane Crashes at Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport; 2 Injured

    A nine-seat single-engine plane crashed at Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport, Georgia, on January 6.

    Authorities said the Cobalt Air 727, a Pilatus PC-12 plane, developed some issues while it was taking off for Lexington, Kentucky. The pilot was attempting to land back when the plane ran off the runway 1 and came to stop in a ditch.

    There were two people aboard at the time; both of them were injured. They were taken to Memorial University Medical Centre.

    The FAA will investigate.

    United Express Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Nashville

    United ExpressUnited Express flight 3550 made an emergency landing in Nashville, Tennessee, on September 5th.

    The plane heading from Cincinnati, Ohio, to Houston, Texas, was diverted due to an unruly passenger. Authorities said the male passenger caused “extreme concern for passengers and the flight crew”, as he broke out of toilet’s door and shouted in Arabic.

    The plane landed safely in Nashville.

    The man, identified as Mohammed Nasser Aldoseri, 26, was arrested.

    Air Services Limited Plane Crash-Lands in Guyana

    An Air Services Limited plane crash-landed at Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Guyana, on March 27th.

    The incident happened when Cessna 172 plane was performing a training flight.

    There were two people aboard at the time, including the pilot and a trainee; both of them remained unharmed.

    Authorities said the plane’s landing gear sustained damage in the incident.

    What: Lion Air flight McDonnell-Douglas en route from Solo City Java Indonesia
    Where: Adi Sumaro Airport
    When: November 30, 2004
    Who: The captain, 1 flight attendant, and 23 passengers were fatally injured; the first officer, 2 flight attendants and 56 passengers were seriously injured; and 84 passengers had minor or no injury
    Why: On November 30, 2004, at 1814 Jakarta time, a McDonnell-Douglas MD-82 Lion Air flight 538, was substantially damaged when it overran runway 26 at Adi Sumaro Airport(SOC), Solo City, Central Java, Indonesia. The captain, 1 flight attendant, and 23 passengers were fatally injured; the first officer, 2 flight attendants and 56 passengers were seriously injured; and 84 passengers received either minor injuries or were not injured. Night visual meteorological conditions prevailed; however, rain showers were in the area, and the runway was wet. The flight originated at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. After landing, it continued off the departure end of the runway and impacted the concrete base of a localizer array.

    Cabin Fumes Diverts Airbus to Daytona

    What: Spirit Airlines Airbus A319-100 en route from Chicago to Ft Lauderdale
    Where: Daytona Beach
    When: July 1 2009
    Who: 143 on board
    Why: When a burning smell filled the cockpit, the plane diverted to Daytona Beach. Passengers debarked normally; some individuals who experienced shortness of breath were taken to Halifax Medical Center.

    Passengers stated that the smoke was not visible but it made their eyes water, and smelled like rotten eggs.

    United Airlines Turbulence over Kansas

    What: United Airlines Boeing 777-200 en route from Washington to Los Angeles,CA
    Where: Kansas
    When: Jul 20th 2010
    Who: 255 passengers and 10 crew
    Why: While en route over Kansas, the flight encountered severe turbulence which caused a number of injuries. The flight diverted to Denver Colorado where they made a safe landing and were met by emergency services. 21 passengers and 4 crew were hospitalized with one head injury, one broken leg plus assorted less serious injuries. The interior of the plane incurred minor damage.

    A replacement flight was provided within four hours.
