    Plane Crashed in North Sulawesi, Indonesia; Two Feared Dead

    A chartered plane crashed into waters in Aaparagus village of Kema district, North Minahasa regency, North Sulawesi, Indonesia, on December 2.

    The accident happened when the Pilatus Porter plane, carrying 2 people, was heading from Jalaluddin Airport, Gorontalo to Ternate, North Maluku. Authorities said the pilot reported bad weather and sought permission for landing at Sam Ratulangi Airport, North Sulawesi, before losing contact at around 10:15 a.m.

    The Gorontalo-chapter National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) said some parts of the aircraft were found however, both people aboard were missing. They were identified as the pilot Capt. Roni Jasril and engineer Fian Sophian,

    The aircraft was registered to PT Elang Nusantara Air, an airline company based out of Pekanbaru.

    Indonesian Plane Found

    A search plane reported sighting the wreckage of the plane 20 nautical miles from Oksibil on a mountain at 9300 feet.
    Update:
    Fifteen bodies arrived at Sentani Airport, Jayapura on Thursday afternoon and taken to the Bhayangkara Kotaraja Police Hospital for autopsy. Two of the 12 passengers were babies.

    Where: 20 nautical miles from Oksibil Indonesia
    When: Aug 2nd 2009
    Who: 13 passengers and 2 crew
    Why: Initially the weather was reported to be foggy, but 2 hours after the flight, thunder storms were reported. The tower has not been contacted since 10:35 and although the flight was due at 11:05, it never arrived.

    State owned PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines is sent out another twin-otter to search for the missing plane. The search was hampered by continued bad weather.

    The flight was lost while passing through the Jayapura to Oksibil route

    Small Plane Crash-Lands Near Leesburg Executive Airport, VA

    A small plane crash-landed near Leesburg Executive Airport in Loudoun County, Virginia, on April 22nd.

    The Sonex experimental plane was heading to Georgia when the pilot decided to return to Leesburg due to bad weather. However, as he was approaching the airport, the plane developed an engine issue, forcing him to crash-land in a field.

    The pilot Joseph R. Bryant, 53, of Washington, remained unharmed.

    The FAA is investigating.

    Nigerian Peace Keeper Chopper Crash Kills 12


    What: Nigerian Police Special Task Force Bell 412EP en route to to Abuja
    Where: Jenta Mangoro, Nigeria
    When: March 14, 2012, 11:00 a.m.
    Who: 7 fatalities aboard, 5 ground fatalities
    Why: While on a mission to monitor a crisis situation, the chopper crashed. The crash also killed 5 on the ground in the vicinity of a satellite market and a Government Secondary School along Rukuba Road. Reports say that the wreckage landed inside a residence. A nine year old girl in the house was injured. The owner of the house, Mali Waziri, was at work at the time of the accident.

    Witnesses say that the chopper made strange noises before it lost height and crashed.

    The mission was described as “surveillance duty in hot spot.”

    Haruna John, recently Deputy Inspector General of Police, died in the crash, as well as his orderly and other members of the peace team. ACP Garba Yelwa -Pilot; CSP Alexander Pwol-Ja, Co-Pilot and Sergeant Sonatian Shirunam-Orderly were also fatalities.

    Four Survive Bell Crash in Ruthi Switzerland


    Dec 20, 2012, at 16:30 a Bell UH-1D Huey en route from Balzers to St. Gallen, Switzerland developed engine problems.

    The pilot touched down with skids, bounced, and crashed into a cottage in Rüthi in the Rhine valley about 200 meters from the highway. The gearbox and rotor were ten meters from the body of the helicopter.

    The four people aboard the helicopter were hospitalized with minor injuries. Rescue services considered the damage to the helicopter and said that it was lucky there were no fatalities.

    Brazil Cessna Crash

    What: Cessna 310R en route from Leopoldina to Pampulha
    Where: Serra do Curral, Minas Gerais Brazil
    When: Feb 26 2010
    Who: 2 fatalities
    Why: After takeoff, the plane crashed in conditions of fog and low visibility. The mountainous crash site was 5 meters below the top of Serra do Curral mountain range. The plane apparently blew up on impacting a “wall” of mountain.

    A local fire department helicopter spotted the wreckage.

    The victims were identified as Tanus Sales and Rafael Tanus Pascoal Sales. Rafael was the pilot.
