    Small Plane Crashed onto Long Island Rail Road Tracks; 1 Killed, 1 Injured

    madridcrashA Hawker Beechcraft BE35 plane crashed onto Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) tracks at the crossing between Hicksville and Bethpage stations on Long Island, New York, on August 16.

    The plane was heading from Francis S. Gabreski Ariport, Westhampton Beach to Morristown when the pilot reported difficulty in maintaining altitude. Authorities said he was attempting to make an emergency landing at Republic Airport, Farmingdale but could not make it to there.

    The pilot was killed in the crash while his only passenger, identified as Carl Giordano, 55, of New Vernon, New Jersey, sustained injuries. He was taken to Nassau County University Medical Center.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

    Hijacking

    Please note that the hijackers have been taken into custody and the crew is no longer being held hostage.

    What: AeroMexico Boeing 737 en route from Cancun Mexico was hijacked in Mexico on Wednesday and flown to the Mexican capital,
    Where: Mexico City
    When: Sept 9 2009
    Who: all of the 112 American, French, and Mexican passengers and crew got off the plane. Five suspects have caught on film handcuffed being escorted into custody; up to 8 are being detained.
    Why: Hijackers threatened to blow the plane up unless they were allowed to speak to President Felipe Calderon. No bomb was on board

    The hijackers are Bolivian citizens.

    Passengers debarked with their carryon luggage. Some passengers were unaware they’d been hijacked until they arrived and saw police. Others indicate the pilot had made an announcement that they were being hijacked. The hijackers were never able to enter the cockpit.

    Turbulence injures 30 Passengers

    What: Vietnam Airlines Boeing 777-200 from Hanoi to Paris
    Where: Russia
    When: Oct 20th 2010
    Who: 30 injured
    Why: During the flight, while over Russia, the plane encountered “severe” turbulence which injured thirty passengers. A total of 33 injuries were reported. Eighteen passengers and 3 crew were given first aid on the plane. After making a safe landing in Paris, only 6 passengers and 3 crew were hospitalized.

    China Eastern Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in China

    china easternChina Eastern Airlines flight MU-277 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Qingdao, China, on July 19th.

    The plane heading from Yantai, China, to Osaka, Japan, was diverted due to a hydraulic failure.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Turkish Airlines Flight Returns to Kayseri After Bird Strike

    Turkish Airlines flight TK-2011 returned to Kayseri, Turkey, on July 10th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Istanbul, Turkey, but had to turn back due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    ANA Hydraulics Leak in Osaka

    What: ANA All Nippon Airways Boeing 777-300 en route from Osaka Itami to Okinawa Japan
    Where: Osaka
    When: Nov 9th 2009
    Who: 392 on board
    Why: After takeoff, the flight encountered a hydraulic issue. The plane turned around and landed safely sans nose wheel steering. A hydraulic leak was confirmed.
