    Cirrus Crashes in Gary

    What: Gandy Air LLC Cirrus SR22 GTS G3 Turbo en route from Smyrna to Gary
    Where: A mile SE of the Gary Chicago Int. Airport
    When: Oct 3, 2012, 11:00 a.m.
    Who: 2 aboard, 2 fatalities
    Why: A plane that took off from Smyrna, Tenn. General Airport crashed for unknown reasons in a wooded area about 400 feet from the Lighthouse Charter School in Gary. The bodies of the two men aboard were retrieved from the scene of the crash around 5:35 p.m.

    No one reported a distress signal. A witness in Gary heard the plane’s engine “sputter” before the plane crashed. Many of the 650 students of West Gary Lighthouse Charter School heard the plane come down.

    Cessna Crash Kills Hunter, Pilot

    A Cessna U206F Stationair owned/operated by Wilderness Aircraft I LLC went missing east of Donnelly, Idaho while en route from McCall Municipal Airport and the Salmon River Basin. Three planes had been making the 12 minute flight but only two made it to the destination. The Idaho Army National Guard helicopter who were searching in an inaccessible area cancelled due to bad weather and mountain snow. The search resumed on Thursday when the wreckage was found on the side of a steep mountain.

    The pilot and two passengers were going to the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness.

    Hikers to the wreckage discovered that pilot Dan Wilson and passengers Steve Hall and Mike Wolf had not survived the crash. It took rescue workers two hours to hike to the wreckage 7,800 feet up the mountain.

    The NTSB will be investigating.

    Pilot Killed After Small Plane Crashed in Jefferson County, OR

    A small plane crashed near Madras Municipal Airport in Jefferson County, Oregon, on August 19th.

    The plane was approaching the airport when it crashed and caught fire.

    The pilot, who is believed to be the only one aboard, was killed in the crash.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    Quebec Chopper Crash Kills Passenger, Pilot Survives

    What: Capitale Helicoptere Robinson R44 en route between Quebec City and a small mining camp
    Where: Lake Deborah Quebec
    When: June 24, 2011
    Who: Pilot and passenger
    Why: Pilot, Allan Da Encarnacao was flying the two year old Robinson R44 helicopter in a remote area when the chopper crashed in an area with no cell or radio reception. The pilot had been engaged to fly the passenger to the mining camp.

    The pilot, who is 25 ,survived the crash and was taken to a Quebec City hospital with serious injuries.

    The Capitale Helicoptere flight was near Lake Deborah when the helicopter went down.

    The provincial coroner’s office and Quebec provincial police are investigating

    Trans Maldivian Plane makes Crash Landing in Maldives

    A Trans Maldivian flight made a crash landing at Velana International Airport, Malé, Maldives, on May 27th.

    The de Havilland DHC-6-300 flying from Rangali Island, Maldives, had just landed when it tipped over to its left and its nose and left wing was submerged in the water.

    All 9 passengers and 3 crew members were taken to hospital for precautionary measures.

    The aircraft sustained partial damage.

    Helicopter Crashed in Germiston, SA; 2 Killed

    helicopterA small helicopter crashed and caught fire near Rand Airport in Germiston, South Africa, on the afternoon of September 25.

    Two people, including a man and a woman, were killed in the accident.

    The helicopter belonged to MiX Telematics Africa. The company’s managing director Brendan Horan said, “MiX Telematics are aware of the incident that took place this afternoon where we confirm that it was a Matrix vehicle tracking helicopter, operated by Henley Air, which has crashed.”

    The cause of crash is under investigation by the MiX Telematics and the South African Civil Aviation Authority.
