    Swiss International Airlines Flight Returns to Copenhagen due to Engine issue

    swissairSwiss International Airlines flight LX-1267 had to return for an emergency landing in Copenhagen, Denmark, on August 19th.

    The plane took off for Zurich, Switzerland, but had to turn back after its right engine began emitting flames and loud bangs.

    The crew shut down the engine before the plane landed back safely. No injuries were reported.

    Bird-Hit American Airlines Flight Makes Safe Landing at McAllen Miller International Airport

    American Airlines flight AA-5772 made a safe landing after suffering a bird strike near McAllen Miller International Airport, Texas, on October 20th.

    The plane flying from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, was on final approach to McAllen Miller International Airport when a bird hit it.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Ultralight Emergency Landing in North Carolina

    What: ultralight aircraft
    Where: in Pine Hall on Knight Road in Stokes county NC
    When: 6:40pm.
    Who: unnamed pilot.
    Why: When the pilot’s engine quit, the pilot made an emergency landing in a tobacco field. The vehicle was described as a “hangglider with a motor”

    Microburst Diverts AA MD-80 to San Jose

    What: American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-80 en route from Texas to San Francisco
    Where: San Jose
    When: Jan 18, 2010
    Who: 132 passengers and 5 crew
    Why: While en route, the plane developed a throttle problem (left throttle stuck.) On approach to San Francisco, the plane encountered a microburst ( a short, intense gust of wind). Between the throttle problem and the microburst, the crew declared an emergency.

    The flight diverted to San Jose where it landed safely. Passengers were bussed to SF.

    Boliviana de Aviacion Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Bolivia

    Boliviana de Aviacion flight OB-314 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Cochabamba, Bolivia, on February 6th.

    The plane flying from La Paz, Bolivia, was on approach to Uyuni, Bolivia, when the crew reported unsafe gear and decided to divert.

    The plane landed safely. All 31 passengers and 3 crew members remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    U.S. Coast Guard Chopper Hit by Bird; Makes Safe Emergency Landing in Houston

    US Coast guardA helicopter, belonging to the U.S. Coast Guard, had to make an emergency landing in a parking lot in Houston, Texas, on January 22.

    The chopper had to be landed in emergency at a shopping center’s parking area, after a bird hit it. Authorities said the helicopter was flying over the Gulf of Mexico for checking on an unmanned platform at the time of incident.

    Four people were aboard at the time; all of them remained uninjured.
