Why: After landing, while the plane was taxiing towards the bay, one of the tires on the nose-wheel deflated. The plane was briefly taken out of commission for repair, inconveniencing some passengers on the scheduled return flight. The pilot appeared to be unaware of the tire’s condition until pointed out on the runway.

What: United Boeing 757-200 en route from Newark to Berlin
Where: Newark
When: Aug 18 2012
Who: 173 aboard
Why: On takeoff, the plane blew a tire. Simultaneously, the plane gave feedback of problems with both engines, with witnesses seeing fire coming from the left engine. That engine was shut down. The plane managed to circle for two hours to burn off fuel before returning to make a safe landing in Newark.

I should probably throw in my usual nag Maintenance! Maintenance! Maintenance! while at the same time praising the CRM and skill of the pilots. This could have certainly come out a much worse report, except that the pilots knew exactly what to do to have a safe outcome.

Indian Chopper Crashes in Bad Weather
What: Indian Air Force HAL Chetak/Alouette III en route from Kalaikunda to Bagdoghra
Where: Sundarpahari area, Godda district, Jharkhand state
When: Sept 11 2010
Who: 3 aboard, 3 fatalities
Why: While en route in bad weather, the flight crashed in Sundarpahari near Sinharsi air base. Two pilots and a co pilot were killed. Weather is assumed to be the cause, but the IAF has ordered an inquiry .
Oman Air plane Diverts to India due to Fuel Leakage
Oman Air flight WY-374 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai, India, on December 28.
The Boeing 737-800, flying from Colombo, Sri Lanka, to Muscat, Oman, had to divert due to indications of fuel leakage.
The plane landed safely.
All 76 passengers and 6 crew members aboard remained safe.
British Airways Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Delhi
British Airways flight BA-143 made an emergency landing in Delhi, India, on March 19th.
The Boeing 777-200 plane was coming from Heathrow Airport, England, when the crew declared an emergency due to reports of smoke originating from the aft galley.
The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.
It is believed that the smoke was caused by food burning inside an oven.
GoAir Flight Returns to Delhi After Bird Strike
GoAir flight G8-338 made an emergency landing in Delhi, India, on June 21st.
The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Mumbai, India, but had to turn back due to a bird strike.
The plane landed uneventfully. All one hundred and fifty-five passengers aboard remained safe.
The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

What: Wizzair Bulgaria Airbus A320-200 en route from Madrid to Sofia Bulgaria
Where: Madrid
When: May 22nd 2010
Who: 136 passengers
Why: During takeoff, two tires burst. Takeoff was rejected. Passengers disembarked and the tires were replaced, with the flight not arriving in Sophia until nearly 18 hours later.
