Why: Thirty minutes outside of Montreal, the flight encountered thunder storms which caused severe turbulence lasting about two minutes.

What: Dominican Consul Eurocopter EC120 Colibri en route from Santo Domingo to San Jose de Ocoa
Where: San Jose de Ocoa, Dominican Republic
When: 15-OCT-2009 at 14:55
Who: 3 aboard, all fatalities
Why: The Colibri light helicopter took off for Ocoa from the Hotel Santo Domingo‘s heliport at 2:35 p.m. but crashed into a mountain in the south of the country in heavy rain, killing all occupants (the pilot and two passengers: first lieutenant Wilker Diaz, Manuel Checo, Yendi Vásquez)
The last communication with the pilot was at 2:55 p.m. when he told ATC he had Ocoa in sight.
The Dominican consul in Haiti, Carlos Castillo—whose helicopter it is—was not aboard.
Air Canada flight 8650 had to return and make an emergency landing at London International Airport in London, Ontario, on September 21st.
The plane took off for Toronto, Ontario, Canada, but had to return shortly afterwards due to engine problems.
The plane landed safely. All 75 passengers aboard remained unharmed.
American Airlines flight AA-5781 encountered turbulence on the way to Austin, Texas, on December 26th.
The incident happened after the plane, originally heading from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, was diverted due to traffic and weather conditions at DFW airport.
Three people were injured due to turbulence. Two of them were taken to a hospital while the third person was treated at the airport.

What: Easyjet Airbus A320-200 en route from London Gatwick to Faro, Portugal
Where: La Rochelle France
When: Aug 19th 2009, 09:30 BST
Who: 165 passengers and 6 crew
Why: Over the Bay of Biscay, the flight crew detected the smell of something burning and declared an emergency. They diverted to La Rochelle France, where they landed safely. No injuries were reported. Passengers were provided an alternative Airbus six hours later although firefighters with heat sensitive cameras did not find a source for the smell. The Easyjet spokesman called it a ” a small electrical problem .”

Considering that the flight was an Airbus flying over the ocean, passengers were lucky.
What: Delta Airlines Boeing 767-300 from New York JFK,NY to Sao Paulo
Where: New York
When: Mar 6th 2011
Why: The Delta Boeing encountered heavy wind on takeoff and suffered a tail strike. The pilot returned to JFK and made a safe landing. According to Flight Aware, the duration of the flight was 49 minutes.

What: Jetstar Airbus A321-200 en route from Darwin, NT to Singapore
Where: Singapore on May 26th 2010

Who: 167 passengers
Why: On approach to Singapore, the flight had to make a second go-round due to a warning. The flight landed safely. Allegations have been made that the pilot was “texting” at the time.
Dubious about the report of “texting.” I find it highly unlikely that the pilot was texting. If that were the case, we’d have already heard about how he was fired. It is highly unlikely that Jetstar would tolerate that behavior.
