    SATA Air Acores Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Smoke in Cockpit

    SATA Air Acores flight SP-479 made an emergency landing in Lajes, Portugal, on October 21st.

    The plane flying from Pico Island, Portugal, was descending toward Lajes when the crew declared an emergency due to smoke in the cockpit.

    The plane landed safely. All twenty-six people aboard remained unharmed.

    Aruba-bound jet incurs Donkey Strike

    What: Tiara Air Aruba Shorts 360-100 en route from Las Piedras Venezuela to Aruba
    Where: Las Piedras
    When: Dec 5th 2011
    Who: 29 passengers, 4 crew
    Why: Taking off from Las Piedras, the plane struck a donkey with its right main gear.

    Pilots continued on to Aruba where they made a safe landing.

    There were no injuries. Apparently the forecast for repair is better in Aruba than Las Piedras.

    Austrian Airlines Plane Diverts to Turkey due to Burning Odor

    Austrian AirlinesAustrian Airlines flight OS-832 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Istanbul Ataturk Airport, Istanbul, Turkey, on April 21st.

    The Airbus A320-200, heading from Larnaca, Cyprus, to Vienna, Austria, was mid-air when the crew reported a burning odor from its air conditioning system.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All people onboard remained unharmed.

    Qantas Boeing Diverts to Rockhampton

    A Qantas Boeing 737-800 en route from Brisbane to Townsville made an emergency landing in Rockhampton. Emergency fire crews were on standby.

    Passengers noted turbulence. After the pilot informed passengers of technical difficulties, air masks descended. The pilots descended to a safe altitude prior to landing.

    Online reports indicate the cabin was losing pressure.

    An alternative flight was provided to take passengers to Townsville.

    Update on United 777 Diversion to Henderson Field Airport Midway Atoll.

    United Airlines revealed what went wrong on Flight 201.

    A problem with the equipment supply cooling fan on board the Boeing 777 caused the problems which required the pilots to divert to Midway to land there in the dark. The passengers waited in a gym until the replacement flight arrived.

    The plane that flew in to Midway to pick up the passengers also brought parts and a repair crew. The plane with the bad fan was fixed, and returned from Midway Island back to San Francisco.

    In fact, it was returned to service.

    Now we’d like to hear about the passengers getting their luggage back.

    Jetstar Flight Diverts to Brisbane Due to Engine Problems

    downloadJetstar flight JQ 189 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, at around 10 a.m. on February 3.

    The plane was en-route from Gold Coast to Christchurch when it developed some engine problems.

    According to the airline, “The captain requested a priority landing and the aircraft landed without incident. We’re currently investigating. We will work to get customers on their way to Christchurch as soon as possible.”
