Frustrated US Airways Flight Attendants to Picket Airports Across the Country This Thursday

Nationwide Day of Action Highlights Management’s Failure to Negotiate a Merged Contract

WASHINGTON, Feb. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — US Airways Flight Attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), will conduct a nationwide protest over the failure of US Airways management to negotiate a merged Flight Attendant contract. After five years of protracted contract negotiations and the announcement of US Airways’ second biggest profit in the airline’s history, Flight Attendants are united in their effort to reach a fair contract that reflects the sacrifices they made for the success of the airline.

Last week, the AFA Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) broke off talks after US Airways management presented a proposal that contained concessions in healthcare and sick benefits, gutted scope and merger protections for Flight Attendants, and contained no meaningful wage increases. AFA wants to reach a merged agreement but management has failed to provide the financial resources necessary to do so.

Tempe-based America West Airlines merged with US Airways in September 2005 and the Flight Attendants have been in merged contract negotiations since January 2006.

    Southwest Airlines Announces 20 Firm Boeing 737-800 Deliveries in 2012

    DALLAS, Dec. 15, 2010 —

    Today, Gary Kelly, Southwest Airlines Chairman, President, and CEO spoke at the Wings Club in New York City and shared additional details on introducing the Boeing 737-800 to the Southwest fleet.

    Kelly announced the Company will substitute 20 of its 737-700 orders for -800s, with the first delivery scheduled for March 2012. With both its Pilots’ and Flight Attendants’ Unions ratifying their contracts to add the -800 to their current collective bargaining agreements, the Company is continuing to finalize discussions with the Boeing Company regarding substitutions of the -800s for the -700 positions, and configuration and equipage options.

    Boeing’s India Commitment

    NEW DELHI, Feb. 9, 2010 — Boeing [NYSE: BA] will present world-class products and services including the F/A-18IN Super Hornet, C-17 Globemaster III, P-8I, AH-64D Apache and CH-47F Chinook to Indian government officials, military officers, and other valued stakeholders at Defexpo 2010. The exhibition takes place Feb. 15-18 at the Pragati Maidan complex in New Delhi.

    Boeing PR: Boeing Joins Fuselage Sections for First 747-8 Intercontinental

    EVERETT, Wash., Oct. 15 — Boeing moved closer this week toward completing assembly of the first 747-8 Intercontinental as mechanics in Everett, Wash., loaded the forward and aft fuselage sections to join with the wing and center section.

    The 747-8 fuselage is 250 feet 2 inches (76.3 meters) long, which is 18 feet 4 inches (5.6 meters) longer than the 747-400. The stretch provides space for 51 additional seats to accommodate 467 passengers in a typical three-class configuration and offers 26 percent more cargo volume.

    "Final body join is an important milestone for the 747 program," said Pat Shanahan, vice president and general manager of Airplane Programs in Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "It is a major step toward completing the structural integration and building out our all-new interior. We now have the first real look at the size and distinctive shape of the 747-8 Intercontinental. This is going to be a superb airplane for our customers both from an aesthetic and a performance perspective."

    The 747-8 is the new high-capacity 747 that will give airlines the lowest operating costs and best economics of any large airplane while providing enhanced environmental performance. The airplane also features a 787 Dreamliner-inspired interior that will offer passengers a greater feeling of space and comfort.

    The 747 program has orders for 109 747-8 Freighter and Intercontinental airplanes. Thirty-three of those are for the 747-8 Intercontinental, with orders coming from Lufthansa, Korean Air and eight VIP customers. The first 747-8 Intercontinental delivery is scheduled for late 2011 to a VIP customer.

    Why: After takeoff on this flight, an Albanian passenger got up and tried to exit the plane. It took 5 passengers and crew to subdue him. The pilots returned the plane to Charlotte where the disruptive Albanian-speaking passenger was taken into custody by police and removed to a hospital for observation.

    Was he suicidal? Confused? Destructive? In despair? Incontinent? We may never know.

    Vietnam Airlines and Boeing Team to Enhance 777 Passenger Experience

    SEATTLE, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Vietnam Airlines have teamed on a key initiative to upgrade the level of comfort for Vietnam Airlines’ passengers, unveiling the carrier’s latest cabin interior modernization on four of the airline’s 777-200ERs. Vietnam Airlines will improve its passenger service with an increased focus on the overall passenger experience and comfort while continuing to expand the network and add new destinations.

    In support of Vietnam Airlines’ goals, Boeing Commercial Aviation Services developed a cabin layout that meets the discerning needs of the airline and its passengers, and also provided the engineering services and program integration as well as managing the worldwide group of suppliers that Vietnam Airlines selected for the program.

    Boeing produced the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration-certified service bulletin and kit of parts to accommodate the relocation of business class seats; installation of new deluxe economy and economy class passenger seats; and revisions to the in-flight entertainment system, in-seat power and cabin cooling systems. Boeing also relocated and updated lavatories, galleys, ceilings, sidewalls, lighting, plumbing and the lower lobe attendant crew rest modules to enable the expanded service planned for these 777s.

    The first aircraft was recently completed and Vietnam Airlines has proudly re-introduced the aircraft into service.
