Why: After takeoff, a piece of a tail fin was found on the runway. The crew performed a flyby for ATC to perform a visual inspection. Nothing irregular was found by ATC or by the crew so they continued the flight, but diverted to Stockholm for inspection.
EasyJet flight U2-864 made an emergency landing in Inverness, Scotland, on June 29th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Gatwick Airport, England, but had to turn back due to a bird strike.

What: Air France Boeing 747-400 en route from Paris to Bangkok
Where: Paris
When: Jan 22nd 2010
Why: After takeoff from Paris, one of the engines failed. The crew notified ATC and returned to Charles de Gaulle Airport to make a safe landing. The flight was subsequently postponed.
Virgin Atlantic flight VS-34 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, on August 15th.
The Airbus A330-200 plane heading from Antigua, Antigua and Barbuda, to Gatwick Airport, England, was diverted after the crew received a cargo smoke indication.
The plane landed safely. All two hundred and eighty passengers and twelve crew members remained unharmed.
