    What: Cyprus Airways Airbus A330-200 en route from London to Larnaca Cyprus
    Where: London
    When: Jul 7th 2009
    Why: The Airbus rejected take-off from Heathrow because of an issue with the air speed indicator.

    An issue with the air speed indicator? Where have we heard this before on an airbus?

    Was this the NEW pitot tubes or the old ones not replaced yet?

    Air France Crisis Over Mumbai

    On March 11, 2013, an Air France Airbus A330 en route from Mumbai to Paris developed an engine problem. The pilot shut down the engine and returned to Mumbai.

    There were almost two hundred passengers aboard the flight. None of them reported injury.

    Passengers disembarked, and were provided accommodations as an alternative flight was provided.

    Continental Safely Lands Hot Plane

    What: Continental Airlines Colgan Air de Havilland Dash 8-400 en route from Newark to Montreal .
    Where: Burlington,VT
    When: Apr 3rd 2009
    Who: 33 passengers and 4 crew
    Why: The pilot and crew reported high temperatures, requesting diversion to Albany, NY. They shut down the left engine but decided against Albany because of weather (severe precipitation), and landed instead at Burlington,VT.

    Emergency landings are always a cause for concern. The pilot who responds with a cool head and skill in an emergency situation is to be commended.

    What about the maintenance of the plane? Who chose to fly instead of maintain, or to maintain in half-measures? Someone needs to look into this–

    Jet Blue Birdstrike

    What: Jetblue Airbus A320-200 en route from San Juan Puerto Rico to Orlando, FL
    Where: Orlando
    When: Dec 8th 2009
    Who: not available
    Why: On approach to land, the Jetblue Airbus struck a bird. The flight landed safely, although the return flight to San Juan was delayed.

  • Smoke-no fire in Fuerteventura

    What: Iberia Airbus A321-200 en route from Madrid to Fuerteventura Spain
    Where: Fuerteventura
    When: Apr 19th 2009
    Why: On approach to Fuerteventura, a cargo hold smoke detector went off, but on landing, no fire was found. Even though no fire was found, the plane was held for examination.
