    What: JAL Japan Airlines Boeing 777-300 en route from Okinawa to Osaka
    Where: Okinawa
    When: Jan 26 2010
    Who: 332 passengers
    Why: After takeoff, the left engine developed issues, reportedly leaving a smoke trail. Within twenty minutes the crew had landed the plane back in Okinawa. No injuries were reported, although there may have been an engine fire witnessed from the ground.

    Florida Sheriff Emergency Landing

    What: Marion County Sheriff’s helicopter returning from a call in the southwest area of Marion county
    Where: Ocala Airport
    When: Saturday 10/10/2009
    Who: Sheriff’s Office pilots Peter Rogers and Michael Turner
    Why: While returning from a call, the helicopter lost power. They managed to land at Ocala airport.

    According to Marion County Sheriff Ofc. website, Marion County Sheriff Department flies Bell OH-58A Kiowa.

    The NTSB is investigating.

    Cathay Pacific Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Hong Kong

    Cathay Pacific flight CX-913 had to return and make an emergency landing in Hong Kong, China, on February 1st.

    The Airbus A330-300 plane took off for Manila, Philippines, but had to return shortly afterwards due to an engine problem.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All two hundred and seventy-one people aboard remained unharmed.

    Lufthansa Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Tel Aviv

    Lufthansa flight LH-695 had to return and make an emergency landing in Tel Aviv, Israel, on September 21st.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane took off for Frankfurt, Germany, but had to turn back due to an engine failure.

    The plane landed back safely. All one hundred and sixty people aboard remained unharmed.

    Southwest Boeing Diverts to Oklahoma City

    What: Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-300 en route from Kansas City, Mo., to Dallas
    Where: east of Oklahoma City
    When: May 10th 2011
    Who: 44 passengers, 5 crew
    Why: While en route, east of Oklahoma City, the plane developed smoke in the cockpit.

    The pilot made an emergency landing diverting to Oklahoma city for a safe landing. A replacement jet was provided within two hours.

    The smoke was attributed to a malfunctioning windshield heating element.

    Press Release: Boeing 787 Dreamliner Passes 1,000 Hours of Flying

    EVERETT, Wash., June 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — The Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight test fleet passed 1,000 hours of testing yesterday. The program estimates that it is about 40 percent through the test conditions required to certify the first version of the all-new jetliner.
    “More work remains but we are seeing excellent progress in flight test,” said Scott Fancher, vice president and general manager of the 787 program for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “Even more important than the hours we’ve logged are the test conditions we have completed. The team is being very efficient in getting the data we need.”

    “It’s also important to note that we are making solid progress on the ground testing required on the flight test fleet as well,” Fancher said.
