    Ryanair Flight Rejects Takeoff From Malta International Airport

    Ryanair flight FR-3883 had to reject takeoff from Malta International Airport, Malta, on May 18th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane was accelerating to takeoff for Luton Airport, England, when the crew received an aft door indication and rejected takeoff.

    The plane safely returned to the apron. All one hundred and seventy-two people aboard remained unharmed.

    United Airlines Flight Returns to Geneva due to Landing Gear Problem

    United Airlines flight UA-957 had to return and make an emergency landing in Geneva, Switzerland, on May 9th.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane took off for Newark, New Jersey, but had to turn back due to an issue with the landing gear.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Piper Crash in Austria

    What: Land- und Forstflug GesmbHb Piper J3C
    Where: Apetlon Austria
    When: Sept 29, 2012
    Who: pilot
    Why: The 49-year-old pilot from Wiener Neustadt struck trees when flying in Apetion. The pilot landed in a field with parts of the tree stuck in the plane. The pilot was treated on the scene and taken to the hospital with a fractured pelvis.

    RwandAir Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Cape Town

    RwandAir flight WB-110 made an emergency landing in Cape Town, South Africa, on September 2nd.

    The Boeing 737-700 plane was flying from Harare, Zimbabwe, when it suffered loss of cabin pressure.

    The crew initiated an emergency descent and continued for a safe landing in Cape Town.

    Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    C-17 Lands at Tiny Davis Island Airport

    What: Air Force C-17 Globemaster III cargo jet en route from SW Asia to MacDill Air Force Base
    Where: Peter O. Knight Airport, Davis Island
    When: July 20, 2012
    Who: 23 passengers and 19 crew
    Why: The Globemaster III cargo jet landed on a runway that is 3,580 feet long and 100 feet wide rather than the 11,421 feet long and 151 feet wide runway at MacDill. The nose stopped six to 10 feet from the end of the runway. It took off again later with no problem.

    Miniliner sans Radio Escorted to France

    What: Miniliner Fokker 27-500 (Dutch Air Cargo) en route from Madrid to Liege
    Where: near Troyes France
    When: Aug 13th 2009
    Who: 2 crew
    Why: While en route, the flight lost radio and transponder. The French Air Force provided two two Mirage F1 jets and a patrol reconnaissance to escort the plane to land safely in Chalons France.
