    Metrojet Flight 9268 Crash: Egyptian President Says the Plane was Deliberately Downed

    Egyptian authorities have said for the first time that the Russian commercial jet that crashed on 31st October last year in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula was deliberately downed by terrorists.

    Metrojet flight 9268 was heading to St. Petersburg, Russia, when it went down, killing all 224 people on-board. Islamic State had immediately claimed the responsibility, and Moscow’s investigation report had also claimed that a bomb downed the plane. However, the local authorities previously rejected these claims and maintained that a technical fault caused the accident.

    In a television speech on February 24th, the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said, “Has terrorism ended? No it has not, but it will if we unite. Whoever downed the Russian plane, what did he mean? He meant to hit tourism, and to hit relations with Russia.”

    Sisi’s comments are the first official indication from Egypt that the plane was deliberately crashed.

    Siberian Helicopter Crash

     


    What: Mi-2 helicopter hired by Yuganskneftegaz
    Where: Siberian region of Khanty–Mansi
    When: Monday January 12 2009
    Who: Dmitry Podgorodinsky, the copilot Victor Morozov, and two passengers Denis Inotsenko and Sergey Sokolov
    Why: The helicopter was found near the Obninsk oil deposit 50 kilometres away from the city of Nefteyugansk. All those onboard were killed in the crash. Pilot’s documents and samples of fuel have been taken from the scene. The autopsies of the victims and also an examination of the helicopter’s fuel are in progress. The helicopter had been hired to fkt over the company’s area oil wells. The flight was found at 23:40 local time by 3 search helicopter/rescue crews from aviation companies Convers Avia, UTair and Yugra Avia.

    Windrose Airlines Plane Suffers Runway Excursion in Ukraine

    A Windrose Airlines plane suffered a runway excursion during landing at Zaporizhia International Airport, Ukraine, on March 3rd.

    The incident happened when flight PS-87 was coming from Boryspil International Airport, Ukraine.

    All thirty-seven passengers and four crew members remained uninjured.

    Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Sheremetyevo International Airport, Moscow

    A plane that left Moscow, Russia, for Yerevan, Armenia, had to return and make an emergency landing at Moscow Airport due to technical problems, on May 25.

    The plane, belonging to Aeroflot Company, landed successfully at the Sheremetyevo International Airport, about 30 minutes after it took off.

    Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan was also aboard the plane. He was in Moscow to attend the 3rd conference on international security.

    Crash Kills Six Month Old Baby

    December 22, 2012, at 18:13 a Perimeter Aviation/ Kivalliq Air Swearingen SA227-AC Metro III en route from Winnipeg to Sanikiluaq airport crashed during its second approach.

    The flight had two crew and seven passengers. One of the passengers died when the plane crashed at the end of the runway. The plane was landing during blowing snow and overran the western end of the runway by about about 600 feet.

    The fatality on charter flight 671 was a six month old boy. The pilot was treated for injuries on the scene. The co-pilot was flown to a Winnipeg hospital.

    RCMP and the Chief Coroner of Nunavut are investigating.
