    Wind, Storm Crashes Helicopter in Santa Clarita


    What: Swanson Aviation Group Helicopter hired by Southern California Edison to string electrical line
    Where: Santa Clarita area north of Los Angeles behind Lombardi Ranch on Bouquet Canyon Road.
    Who: 1 fatality. The pilot sustained minor injuries.It is unclear if Curtis Cauthen of Ashfork, CA.–the mechanic on the ground– worked for the helicopter company or the electrical company.) Curtis was caught by the rotor blades and sustained fatal injuries.
    Why: The helicopter was hoving above-ground when a gust of wind wind caused the helicopter to spiral.

    Five Killed in Sudan Military Plane Crash

    A Sudanese military plane crashed in El Obied, North Kurdufan, Sudan, on April 30th.

    The Soviet-era Antonov 26 plane went down when it was attempting to land at the El Obied airport.

    There were five crew members aboard at the time; all of them were killed in the crash.

    Army officials said the crash was caused by technical issues.

    Allegiant Flight Diverts to Fort Wayne

    Allegiant Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-82, en route from South Bend to Punta Gorda Florida with 149 passengers and five crew diverted to Fort Wayne Indiana and made a safe landing with emergency services on standby.

    Pilots diverted because of a warning light. Passengers were evacuated safely.

    An alternative flight was provided.

    Small Plane Crashes near Miami Executive Airport; Pilot Killed

    A small plane crashed near Miami Executive Airport in Miami-Dade County, Florida, on December 10th.

    Authorities said the pilot had declared an emergency shortly after departing from Miami Executive Airport, and was attempting to return when the plane went down.

    The pilot, who was the only one aboard, was killed in the crash.

    Dangerous Maintenance

    It’s not just that they’re sending American jobs out of the country. There’s another question here: Is outsourcing maintenance endangering passengers because the lack of federal oversight?

    Forty percent of maintenance is being sent to third world countries which are documented to have lower standards and security lapses. Saving money may be the intent, but is the savings as important as the performer of the maintenance being able to read the manuals and order forms of the machines he is working on.     Small Plane Crashed in Hawaii; 3 Injured

    A small plane crashed near Moanalua Freeway in Mapunapuna, Hawaii, on June 30th.

    The Piper PA28 plane was carrying three people when it went down under unknown circumstances.

    All three occupants of the plane sustained serious injuries, and were taken to a trauma center.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.
