    Swiss Global Air Lines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Canada

    Swiss Global Air Lines flight LX-40 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada, on February 1st.

    The Boeing 777-300 plane heading from Zurich, Switzerland, to Los Angeles, California, was diverted after one of the engines shut down mid-air.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Quebec Piper Crash

    What: single-engine 1968 Piper Cherokee en route after refueling in Quebec City en route to Saint John, N.B.
    Where: near Buckland*, 90 kilometres southeast of Quebec City.
    When: Tuesday
    Who: pilot Jesse Barrie, and two surviving passengers: Dan Weiher and Stephanie Shipley. There were two fatalities: Pilot Jesse Barrie and passenger Jeffrey McClymont
    Why: No cause has been determined.

    After Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre at CFB Trenton, Ont received a 911 call from the female survivor of the crash,rescue searchers parachuted in and the two survivors were found; they were still alive, though not outfitted for the winter weather conditions. They are described as being “frozen” when they were airlifted by helicopter at 10:30 a.m to Quebec city.

    2 Killed as Small Plane Crashed into Lake in Orlando

    A Beechcraft Bonanza plane crashed into Clear Lake in Orlando, Florida, on November 20.

    The six-seater aircraft, carrying two people, took off from Orlando Executive Airport but crashed just fifteen minutes later into the lake located off Rio Grande Avenue.

    Both occupants of the plane, including a man who appeared to be in his 50s and a teenage girl, were killed in the crash.

    Authorities said the plane was en-route to Gainesville, Texas, at the time.

    The NTSB and the FAA are investigating.

    Beechcraft Baron Crashes in Brazil killing 4

    What: Norte Táxi Aéreo Beechcraft 95-B55 Baron en route from Cametá to Baião
    Where: Cametá, PA Brazil
    When: Feb 16 2012, 10:00 am
    Who: 4 aboard, 4 fatalities
    Why: The Taxi service plane crashed not long after takeoff, killing the pilot, copilot and two security guards who worked transporting money for a bank. A fire ensued after the crash, and rescuers found the bodies were charred.

    The crash occurred a kilometer from the runway. The airport fire department team responded. Seripa (regional research and prevention of Aviation Accidents) is investigating.

    Air Canada Flight Makes Emergency Landing at CFB Trenton

    Air CanadaAir Canada flight 408 had to make an unscheduled landing at CFB Trenton in Ontario, Canada, on February 15.

    The A-320, carrying 119 passengers and 5 crew members, was heading from Toronto to Montreal when the crew reported an overheated oven in the Galley.

    The plane was then diverted to CFB Trenton where it landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged an alternate aircraft for the passengers.

    4 Dead as Plane Crashes in Miami-Dade County

    smokeA small Beech 1900 aircraft crashed into trees near Miami Executive Airport, 12800 SW 145th Ave. in Miami-Dade County, Florida, at around 2:45 p.m. on February 11.

    The 19-passenger plane, belonging to a Venezuelan company, went down after it took off from Miami Executive Airport for Providenciales International Airport, located in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

    Authorities said the pilot reported engine issues shortly after the take off. FAA spokesperson Kathleen Bergen said, “The pilot was attempting to return to the airport when the aircraft crashed.’’

    There were 4 people aboard at the time of crash; all of them were killed. The pilot was identified as Captain Raul Chirivella, 52 while two of the three others were identified as Roberto Cavaniel and Juan Carlos Betancourt.

    The aircraft broke apart and caught fire after the crash.

    The police, the FAA and the NTSB are investigating.
