    Taban Air Flight Returns to Tehran due to Engine Issue

    Taban Air flight I3-5680 had to return and make an emergency landing in Tehran, Iran, on December 17th.

    The plane took off for Urmia, Iran, but had to turn back after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    What: US Airways B767 from Paris to Charlotte
    Where: Bangor Maine
    When: May 22, 2012
    Who: 179 passengers, 9 crew
    Why: Around noon, Two F-15 fighter jets scrambled to intercept a US Airways plane where a French woman from Cameroon had handed a note to a flight attendant claiming that she had a surgically implanted bomb. She was traveling alone and had no baggage.

    The flight which made a safe landing in Maine.

    The flight was interrupted for three hours when passengers were evacuated, and federal customs agents escorted the woman off the plane in handcuffs. The plane was examined and reboarded.

    A passenger said the crew initially blamed the unexpected landing on fuel and weather issues.

    Andes Lineas Aereas Lands Safely with Load of Brazilian Tourists

    What: Chartered Andes Lineas Aereas McDonnel Douglas MD-82 (also reported as -83) en route from Bariloche Argentina to Buenos Aires
    Where: Neuquen Argentina
    When: August 17 2010
    Who: 152 Brazilian tourists
    Why: While the chartered jet was transporting Brazilian tourists home from a skiing trip, the plane suffered sudden depressurization. Oxygen masks were deployed, and the plane made an emergency landing in Neuquen.

    The pilot made a safe landing in Neuquen. The incident occurred shortly after takeoff. Passengers were provided two replacement planes by the carrier.

    Plane Carrying MSU Basketball Team Makes Emergency Landing in St. Louis

    A chartered plane, carrying Mississippi State men’s basketball team, made an emergency landing in St. Louis, Missouri, on the night of February 14.

    The incident happened when the team was returning to Starkville after defeating the Missouri Tigers in Columbia, Missouri.

    According to Mississippi State sports information director Gregg Ellis, the plane had to land in emergency after its right engine failed.

    The plane landed uneventfully and no one was harmed.

    SpiceJet Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Mumbai after Mid-Air Turbulence

    SpiceJetSpiceJet flight SG-152 had to return and make an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai, India, on March 19.

    The aircraft, heading from Mumbai to Delhi, was mid-air when it started causing turbulence due to green system failure, prompting the crew to return.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All 141 passengers and 11 crew members aboard remained unhurt.

    Fatal African Crash Kills Two

    What: Cessna T206H Turbo Stationair en route from Krugersdorp to Wonderboom Airport in Pretoria
    Where: Magaliesberg mountains, Boekenhoutskloof South Africa
    When: Feb 3 2010
    Who: Pilot and passenger
    Why: The flight crashed in a valley in the Magaliesberg mountains (North West Province, South Africa), and on impact burst into flames. A police helicopter found the wreckage around 10.15 am, although the location was not accessible by helicopter. A rescue unit hiked in though a heavy mist. No survivors.
